Another fake patch on EBay

Let me clarify, as I remember Barrie's initial post at Buckett:

He isn't accusing the SELLER of faking the patch. Barrie's contention is that the patch doesn't represent an Avs jersey, and the source of the forgery is UD itself.

You got it. I also have sent a short (and polite) e-mail to the grand puba (no, not the rapper from Brand Nubian) over at Beckito.

Not holding my breath, but we shall see his response to this matter since it was Al who went looking for answers on this last time. It was then confirmed there was a massive relayering scandal in the hobby and the case was thought to be closed on the matter......until now.

I do hope he takes this seriously and takes them to task.

We the collectors drive this industry and it really disgusts me when I not only see this kind of crapola put on cards, but the fact it is well over $300 already. Great for the seller who is an innocent in this, but bad for the buyer. And who's to blame?

Darn right, Upper Deck boys and girls.

Hey, I am not trying to start a sheet storm here but let's be honest, you would NEVER seen a fake piece of jersey in an ITG product (let alone they have the finest stash of vintage goodies on the planet!).

Dr. Price is very hands on with the memorabilia he picks up. I am starting to think UD sends interns out to the Sports Authority/River City Sports for their gamers. UGGGGGGGHHHH!

And if you wondered if I have had to call UD out before on Av's/Sakic related memorabilia issues, don't. Read this:

Replace the asterisk with an e

Anyway, let's see where this one leads......

Just to add a little something here...

Look at the foote (I always spell it like that when referring to that patch) closely and you will see two lines coming back from the toe area toward the back of the foote.

Now, look at the same patch from my Authentic Nieminen jersey from the same era.

The logo is just messed up. The Avs never wore that logo, as I have merchandise with the foote logo on it from their inaugural year in Colorado.

It's like it came from a Hong Kong knockoff or something.

SNL had a skit one time about fake Christmas presents, and how to spot them. They had a Dallas Cowboys helmet on there with a Star of David on it, and that's kinda what we have here.

Definitely fake.

I doubt Al will. Becektt lost all its credibility to me when Clint left. I seriously get the feeling Al hates his job. If I worked at Beckett, I'd write a huge expose (sp) on UD and their crap. The ONLY shot we (collectors) would have at causing UD to actually do something is if Beckett or Tough Stuff did a story on them, simply because they are the only main source of info. There's no way it'd happen though, it's too political...

The ONLY thing Beckett is good for is for something to read while you're on the toilet. Our Becketts rarely leave the bathroom.

There are fluff articles about nothing.
A couple nice pull posts that follow a strict formula ("I went to my favorite shop, X, and bought a box of Y. I opened it and got nothing. Then, I opened the last pack, <insert useless details to add drama and suspense> and what did I see? Lo and behold, it was Z fancy dual auto patch monstrousity! This is the best pull of my life, and I am going to buy more Y!").
An article where Al Muir continues his delusional quest to be seen as a legitimate hockey writer.
Then the useless, inaccurate, lazy, arbitrary "price guide," which is nothing more than a few baseless estimations on products the Beckett staff knows nothing about and spent ZERO time tracking.

Tuff Stuff is even worse.

I really wish someone would come along and create a better alternative.

Beckett is functional only as a price guide. Emphasis on GUIDE. On most low end stuff, it's ok. As the product escalates, so does beckett's irrelevance - and more so since Clint left. I liken it now to the way it was six years ago - remember 500 goal club Beliveau, Lafleur, Ciccarelli and Yzerman selling WAY above book? And Beckett did nothing. One example among many.

As far as writing expose's on UD, that's just so much bullcrap. Try running a magazine and doing that. You'll NEVER get another word out of UD again. And before you come back with the flip "well what's wrong with that", shut your mouth a moment and think about it.

My first in person meeting with Clint and Al was at the 2004 NHL Draft and they were at the beckett table selling BCCG cards from Topps and Pacific products. A BCCG 9.5 of Jozef Balej (Topps) with a dinged corner in the case. My thought was "these guys are known in the hockey card industry and they are stuck at the draft selling BCCG cards 3 for $10 ????"

I guess they are stuck in a job situation that they may not like and one left and one still is there. So perhaps they didnt have much pull for the company, when we think they do.

And yeah that patch looks 100% fake and I am sure UD and other companies get swap meet luoy from time to time.

Nice work Bob, that's about as clear as it is gonna get. Too bad the seller is calling me "ill informed". Simply laughable. If only he knew.

Ironic too since I never accused him of any wrong doing, just stating the facts ma'am, just the facts!;)
