According to a report in the Toronto Star, the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are taking a close look at Toronto winger Darcy Tucker ahead of the February 27th trade deadline.

According to Star sources, both Alberta clubs are in "tire-kicking" mode when it comes to Tucker, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

"I'm probably a prototypical guy for a Western Conference team, so these things (trades) will be talked about," Tucker said.

Tucker also noted, however, that he would like to remain in Toronto beyond 2007.

Very interestin' ..... ;)

i really hope this loser is out of this division soon

I love Tucker more and more every time I hear about him. I would love to see him in Colorado, on a line with Avery and Laperriere.

I do hope that was sarcasm.

Tucker belongs in a circus with other dancing bears.

Quincy, there are two types of people in this world. People who like Sakic, Yzerman and Bourque, and people who like Avery, Tucker, Claude and Marchment.

If I could have Chelios, Hunter, Avery, Tucker, Marchment, Claude, DKasp, MartyMc, etc on my team (in their primes, of course), I would be a happy camper. Add in Roenick and Hull for some offense (and more mouth) and I would be even happier.

I love Jack Johnson for that reason as well. Big hitter, dirty and mouthy. Dion Phaneuf could get a little mouthier and I would be an even bigger fan.

Edit - I am working on getting an Avs #20 jersey made before they stop making the current style jersey. I would probably be the only guy who has ever worn an Avs Marchment jersey, other than Marchment himself.

I got no problem with pests - hell, Tikk the Flea remains a favourite. I got no problem with fighters. I have a major problem with cheapshot artists.

Agreed Quincy - Players like Andre Boudrias, Esa Tik, Ken Linesman, I liked. Players like Avery and Tucker (Both with some offensive talent) I can do without on my team.

See the problem with this story is that its not just the Flames and Oilers...

It's almost every playoff team.

Who wouldn't be interested in a pending UFA, thats a 25-30 goal scorer, making only 1.6M, can play any forward position, and plays playoff type hockey?

I don't know why the article only mentions Calgary and Edmonton. I'm a Leaf fan and visit Leaf boards everyday and everyone knows Tuckers name is popping up in every playoff bound city. The report is up only to make Western Canada giddy.

I hated Tucker when he was with my beloved Habs, and hate him even more on the Leafs. There's a difference between gritty, tough and/or mouthy and dirty. Tucker falls under the latter....I've never liked his attitude either. If he were to ever smile, I think his face would crack.

Guys he's toned his sideshow act down a ton. I wouldn't even say he's dirty now. Not even remotely. I can't name 1 incident in the last 2 seasons where I would say, "wow that was cheap." He doesn't even fight or hit anymore!!!!!

Infact, he's not even remotely the same player he once was. I'm actually very dissapointed in him. I loved his antics. I loved his unquestionable heart and desire. Now hes taken 2-3 steps back. He's turned more into a goal scorer then a pest.

He's not the player you guys are referring to. Not nearly.

That's the thing though...cheapshot artists are brave by nature. Yes, brave. If you nail someone with a clean hit, the rest of the league respects you. Nobody guns for you, you don't have a bullseye on your back. When you cheapshot someone, the rest of the league guns for you. There's a bullseye on your back. If you are mouthy on top of that (Avery's comments about French Canadians, Lemieux taunting Draper), there's an even bigger bullseye on your back.

It's not only brave in that you cheapshot someone knowing that the entire league is going to come after you, but it also helps your team in that the other team's big hitters aren't out there trying to hurt your stars, and you get them off their game because they are so concerned with coming after you.

Give me two or three really good cheapshot artists and some skilled forwards and defensemen and I will win a Cup, and I will win it against a bunch of Byng candidates anyday.

You're confusing bravery with stupidity.

Firefighters, policemen, armed forces.....those people are brave. Some single minded putz who tries to deliberately injure somebody during a game, and runs the risk of costing their team in terms of negative publicity, penalties, fines and gawd knows what else, is stupid.

In fact, a cheapshot "artist" (I use that term loosely) is the very definition of cowardice, as they opt to perform their antics when the other player has their head turned, or is otherwise indisposed and unable to defned themselves.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said and the earlier comments were simply false. Tucker has eliminated himself from his "sideshow bob" act for a couple of seasons and prior to his injury he was on pace to score 40-50 goals and led the league in power play goals...Any team in the league could use that..
