Just throwing an FYI out there to all. I have no personal affiliation with this site, I was just informed of it's coming existence and offered a chance to Beta test it (which I have not done yet).

The intro page to the soon to be site kind of explains it all. It will be an online auction house specific to the trading card industry and seems to cater to the seller in terms of fees.

Here's the link:

I know no more than I've stated here. I just thought some of the more "eBay fluent" sellers might find this interesting, as well as another potential source for available cards for buyers.

I agree - we need some major hitters like DicesAre and a few others to jump on the wagon and to get the word out there for potential buyers to check it out.

Best way might be for make a featured listing on eBay's front page with a Gretzky/Crosby/Orr/Lemieux/Howe/ Auto 1/1 or something to get everyones attention and to make them look at the auction and in the description to have a link to the other site.

The good thing is - if Ebay ends your auction -they refund your listing fee so the adverstising is on them. :)

Been in contact with Brent from Cardboard exchange
More great info coming soon...this is gonna be a bad sign for other sites if this takes off as it is expected to.

It's still a matter of exposure I guess. Will the novice buyers know about the site or just the knowledgeable collectors? A majority of the time on ebay, some of the best sales come from beginner collectors who just happen to see a card they like. They'll spend $20 on a card that books at $20, while a veteran collector won't bid higher than $5 on it.

And if the traffic isn't as great, there won't be those intense bidding wars that sellers love. A majority of the time, more traffic = bigger sales.

Of course, this could be a paradise for buyers if there isn't a lot of competition. But I think you'll see more people doing a Fixed Price style format to make sure they get what they want on their items. And it says listing fees start at .20. No telling what it could be if you list a card at $1000.

I like the No Final Value fee. But will they have convenient checkouts like ebay? Payments directly through Paypal in checkouts? Is this basically just Naxcom.com part two?

I'd love to get a lot more information. I think I'll shoot them an e-mail as well.

yes for all the bad associated with ebay.. they have kind of assembled the total package with all their ancillary services.

I will have to take a wait and see approach to this.

BTW? Wasnt this launched many moons ago , maybe even under a different guise?

Would that put some one at risk of being suspended?
Perhaps some of the sellers here can throw the url in their signature through email....or another way is to post a completed auction on beckett...not aganist the rules and it will get the site some exposer

For those interested, heres a few more words from the owner:

We are brand new. Not a reissue of a previous place. As for buyer protection, PayPal takes care of that if the buyer uses paypal. If they do not we have a dispute resolution method of dealing with things. That portion of things will be very similar to eBay. If the buyer can prove that they paid with MO/Personal Check and that it has been cashed BY THE SELLER, we will debit the sellers account and send the buyer paypal/check in the amount we debit the sellers account IF the buyer seems to be legit and has not filed several of the same claims in the recent past AND the seller has been given a sufficient amount of time to deliver the goods. IF these conditions are satisfied the seller will also be dealt a strike. Sellers are notified of strikes but we reserve the right to handle their account in any way we see applicable given the amount and manner in which the dispute was handled. Buyers will be SAFER than they are on eBay. Please let me know if they have any suggestions to that general way of handling things.

Feel free to pass along any other questions you might have and I can pass them along for you.

OH GOOD - just what I - as a seller - want to hear. Guess I will stay with eBay - at least I know the odds of being screwed.

When will these auction sites realize that maybe they should be protecting the seller just a little more. If the seller advertises in their auction - the option of insurance on the item and the buyer refuses or neglects to use that option and the item goes missing - SO BE IT - the buyer is at a loss not the seller.

Of course there would have to be fair prices for trackable shipping but in Canada - the cheapest is something like $9 I think.

I can see SOME sellers using that to an advantage to rip some buyers off but for most of us sellers that have 1000s of feedback - I think that it is a safe bet that you can purchase from us and we'll be honest about it. NEW sellers would be the problem but not so much as new buyers being scam artists.

Mike,
This issue has also been reviewed and dealt with. Sellers are being protected as well as possible. There is a committee that will review all disputes shortly after they are reported. All negatives that are questioned will be examined shortly after the dispute and have the potential of being reversed/removed. Those that abuse the feedback system will be removed from the site.

There is no way to force payment, so from a sellers standpoint it seems like the buyer is being supported as well, but from the buyers standpoint, there is no way to force a seller to ship an item either.

Its a work in progress and theres a lot of things that can be changed. The site is far from perfect and is essentially functional right now. Lots of bugs to work out, but the basic services are there. ANY suggesions will be considered. the goal is to provide a place for buyers and sellers to WANT to use rather than being a place that they have no other choice but to use.

HI
If people want to advertise this site, about all they need to do is post a link in their trade site where they post their traders and wants. Don't we all drive people there?
I haven't checked it out yet, but if I like what I see then I will post a link in my freewebs site for every one to see.

Yet another attempt to bring down the Ebay giant.

Sorry people I've seen a tonne of auction sites pop up. Even those directed soley at sports cards. There's a reason why Ebay can get away with charging those fees. They get WAY more traffic than this site can ever hope to garner.

This may be a noble cause but as mentioned prior you may get some hard core collectors using it but the average collector or just general browser will stick with ebay.

If I have a card I know I can sell on Ebay for $100 I'd gladly pay the $5 in fees if that same card would only sell for $70 on this new site.
