I would not be a legitimate Red Wings' fan if I did not take below the belt shots at the Avs during a playoff series. Welcome to Hockeytown.

p.s. Mighty Joe just finished another game sans a point.

And Yzerman was oh so effective in the final years prior to his retirement...

Brodeur, Turco, Lundqvist, Osgood, Nabokov, Kiprusoff, Price, Giguere, Miller, DiPietro, and arguably on par with Vokoun, LeClaire, Hasek, Huet. And I'll defer to Chris's argument on team impact rather than simply staring at the stats until they make sense.

Out to lunch on this one. No way would you take Osgood above Luongo, no way!!!

In his final years Yzerman adjusted to a defensive style that made him invaluable to the team. Sakic chose to be #19 for a reason. It was not the other way around.

Gotta throw this name out there

Brian McCabe!!!

All I can say is he made his mark sticking his stick between the legs of other players (Anyone got a Can opener?????) Outside of Kaberle hes the leafs best D-Man???? Sad!!!I sometimes pity the Leaf Nation! .....Sometimes!!!

^ everyone thinks he's crap, so it's hard to be overrated when everyone thinks you're useless.

Hey Q - don't bring Stevie into this drag down.

Sakic overrated?????
Let's see, I am one of the biggest Wings homers on here, but saying Sakic is over-rated is just foolish. You can't even begin to make a case for it - on any level.

Luongo - probably not over-rated, but he did not do himself any favors going from Florida to Vancouver. The Canucks were on the way down - and he gets very little help. Top 7 or 8 goalie in the league - but why argue - you can't prove a thing.

Richards, Kessel - no 3rd year player should be considered yet. Not everyone does a Malkin/Ovechkin/Crosby out of the gate.Richards already is a very good hockey player and will be a force in Philly for years. Kessel - oh that's right missed what almost a month of his rookie year??? Cripe - he's 20 years old.

Savard/Hossa/Kovalchuck - all are lacking in people's minds because they tend to disappear in the playoffs.

Right now - I have to give my vote to Marian Gaborik. His is enormously gifted, but only really plays offense. Does not use his speed to get back on defense - he is one dimensional. And on offense - he is easy to shake off in the playoffs when the ice gets small.

I'm gonna go with Sidney Crosby. I think Sid is awesome. Incredibly talented, driven, and he plays hard all the time. But he just isn't Gretzky great - and that is how he's presented and portrayed. He is the face of the league, but he is not head and shoulders above the rest of the league like Gretzky was. I would argue that Ovechkin is at least as good as he is (personally, I think OV is better), and Malkin is up there pretty close too.

Kovalchuk has only played in four playoff games. Savard has played in seven and has six points.

If Crosby is, so is Ovechkin. Yeah, he had 112 points, but Malkin only had 6 less points and almost two hundred less shots taken.

I would argue that Ovechkin is seen by most as one of the best players in the league, which he is. Sid is seen by many as head and shoulders above everyone else in the league, which I would argue is not accurate. He is one of the best, and arguably the best, but I can't say that right now he is without question the best, as could be said about Gretzky.

Anyone who says Crosby, Malkin or Ovechkin is overrated should probably be posting in the baseball section of this site :dizzy:

Guys don't turn this into a stupidity thread. Coming One-Two in the scoring is not overrated and if Crosby wasn't hurt, they would have been 1-2-3, HOW THE HELL IS THAT OVERRATED??

Come on man, what cloud are you on?

People need to stop reading stats they are not what make a player. I have watched EVERY single game Luongo has played as a canuck (even a few exhibition) and I have only seen the goalie on the other end of the rink outplay him a handful of times. The Canucks get outplayed constantly but not luongo.

If the canucks were to put luongo on the trading block we could get a top 2 forward and up and comer and multiple picks.
Luongo is an ELITE goaltender and it is unarguable, circumstances made him have a slight drop in numbers this season but he is one of the best.
Just you see who will be between the pipes at the 2010 Olympics.

Of the goalies listed I would say none are better then Luongo but a few are at the same level, Brodeur, Turco and Kippersoff are Elite netminders and can carry teams on their backs. All of the other goalies you listed are on a level benaeath him. Lundqvist has potential but look at the scoring power in front of him.

You take luongo away from the canucks and they are the WORST team in the NHL, worse then Tampa or LA.

Exactly!!!

Holy crap I can't believe someone said Sakic..lol!! I have 2 that I have always thought were overrated
Doug "dead" Weight
Keith Tkachuk or Tkachoke for that matter
Neither of these 2 clown's are worth beans in the playoff's and most goals they get are pretty meaningless. I was surprised when the Ducks gave up MacDonald for that dog Weight! Funny how most announcers say how valuable the guy is yet he never shows up in the big games!!
