Just caught this on TSN...

TSN said:
Sources tell TSN Dan Boyle has waived his no-trade clause and has agreed to a trade to the San Jose Sharks.

The paper work confirming Boyle has consented is being processed right now and once signed by Boyle will clear the way for the Sharks and Lightning to complete the deal.

In return for the 31 year old veteran defenseman, it is believed Tampa will receive a package that will include 23-year old defenseman Matt Carle, a first round draft pick, a prospect and a 4th round pick.

Sources say defenseman Brad Lukowich is also part of the deal going to San Jose.

The Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers were the other two teams who made in to Boyle's final three trade options.

Boyle only played 37 games this season after his wrist was cut by a skate in a freak accident, but he put up 25 points on four goals and 21 assists.

He signed a six-year, $40 million extension in February just before the trade deadline.

Boyle, who was part of Tampa Bay's Stanley Cup championship team in 2004, had a career year in 2006-2007 when he scored 20 goals with 43 assists for 63 points.

Carle, struggled in 2007-08 posting two goals and 13 assists in 62 games. In 2006-07, he thrived on the point posting 11 goals and 31 assists.

Carle was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 2nd round (47th overall) in 2003.

San Jose is pulling out all the stops this offseason it seems.

Interesting how Tampa ended up with Matt Carle, after the classy move they made on draft day - picking up his brother (David) in the 7th round even though they knew he had to retire because of a heart problem.

WHEW! My heart sank reading the title as I thought it was Brian Boyle from the Kings.

That would have been BRUTAL.

Carle had an off year last year but great potential. He's should do O.K in Tampa. Boyle will help the Blue line in San Jose for sure. Great trade for both teams to address their needs

Lou Franceschetti, who no longer is involved whatsoever in hockey (some may say he wasn't really involved while playing in the NHL either!) called into Hockey Central at noon on the FAN 590 and mentioned how this may now free up cap space for the Lightning to bring back... Nikolai Khabibulin. It makes some sense, since Chicago is over the cap and signed a new number one.

San Jose is looking decent this coming year, but they haven't done anything to add that missing ingredient that lets them down come playoff time yet.

I love this deal! I was hoping SJ was going to get Boyle before the trade deadline, but they picked up Campbell instead. Dougie needs a LW or two imo.
Good move for SJ with Blake as well!

That is going to be awesome for his fantasy next year if anyone is in a fantasy hockey league.

He's a quality player that played on a poor Tampa Bay team ( sorry Tampa fans your defense was icky ). He should do well there, San Jose is going to be a pretty good team again next year.

Why the hell would they have traded for Smith and signed Kolzig? This makes zero sense

I'm peeved at this deal. The Sens should have tried hard to get Boyle. He is exactly what this team needed! Plus, he's from the area so he would have been happy to play here. Damnit! There's nothing left for us to sign! Murray keeps losing out on all the UFAs. It looks like it may be a looooong season in Ottawa

Anyway, while I very much appreciate the enthusiasm and energy that Oren and Len are bringing to the Lightning organization, the way they have handled Boyle is criminally unprofessional and totally indecent. Through this and a few other incidents, it's clear that the "new kids" in the owners' suite have a lot to learn. I only hope that they do so quickly, before they get blackballed like Kevin Lowe seems to have.

The Lightning will be a very competitive team next year, make no mistake. But it's funny how "we're buying something that isn't broken, it just needs a few tweaks" turns into a total front-office clearing and the biggest roster overhaul I've seen in a long time.

San Jose must be allergic to the 1st round. Regurgitating what I read in a blog: they seemingly have too many D now...possible deal still coming to get a first round pick??

Sorry guys - the quote was from Lou, not me - he seemed to think Smith would go to Chicago - I'm with the rest of you and couldn't understand the thinking myself.

Please stop shooting the messenger - he's about ready to cry!
