Verified Trader,
I tried giving them one more shot simply in an attempt to maybe find a few cards I can't find between here and ebay, but when they banned trading on the forums, that was it for me.
Several sites have benefited from Beckett's colossal gaffe.
HI got the Hockey guys
HK got the BKB guys
FCB got the baseball guys
not sure where the FB guys went
Beckett who?
You know, those guys, with the thing.
Whoever is now running Beckett got greedy. Beckett now has there hands in distribution of cards, selling cards (Internet), grading cards, and pricing cards. It is a huge conflict of interest on there part.
Good example I go to my local Walmart (Beckett Supplied) and buy a pack of hockey cards and pull a sweet Carey Price YG Rc. Then I decide to send it in to get graded. Beckett already has there own grading service and is in Partnership with the three other major grading companies. So my only option is Beckett Grading. I get the card back and am wondering what it is worth. Surprise! Surprise! I have to look in Beckett Grading Magazine to see what it is worth because they are the only publication that has pricing.
Whats next for Beckett producing there own cards or memorabilia.
...Therein lies the problem. The mentality of the majority of collectors is that Beckett is still THE authority on pricing. "I HAVE TO" check what Beckett says. This is what has kept Beckett at all relevant, despite the disdain of collectors, and the mismanagement at Beckett.
You don't have to check Beckett. They were once the authority, but Napoleon was once Emperor of France. Last I checked, he doesn't have a lot of pull these days either.
But as long as every time you show up at a shop, or a card show, and you base your buying/selling/trading decisions on what Beckett says, you are giving them more power than they have shown they deserve.
thank god it crashed, thats how I heard about HI!
