aside from the obvious inflation we're seeing in a few players thanks to some fans and the help of program which automates the voting, does anyone else think the NHL is messing with the numbers as well?

my own example is that i've only kept an eye on the numbers for Lundqvist. between last night and today, his votes have gone from 45K+ down to 35K? what gives?

What's more ridiculous? The fact that the voting system is so flawed that rigging can occur or that the all-star game is midway through the season?

When else are you going to have it? Before the playoffs? After? Because the all stars who don't make the playoffs will LOVE having 2 months off before playing a game that means squat in a city that likely is more interested in the 80 degree heat.

I'm OK with Lundqvist missing the ASG again this year... he can use the rest. Plus, goalies have a tendency to get hurt at the ASG, like Richter and Dippy-etro.

It should be like the pro bowl--after the season.

The NHL All Star Game is slightly less of a joke than the Pro Bowl is right now. I'd like to keep it that way :)

I'm fine with the ASG format right now. You can't hold it at the beginning of the season because of end of season retirements and signings, and shouldn't hold it at the end because I don't think any players want to be called back to play when they've been technically been off for 2 months already if their teams didn't make the playoffs.

Again, the NFL manages to do it. Not that the Pro Bowl isn't a joke, but what All-Star game isn't?

The all-star game is a garbage event. Once upon a time I enjoyed it but now I just find it boring. The skills contest is a joke and the game is worst. The NHL needs to do something to update the event. The NHL game is intense, rough and played hard the all-star game is none of those.

"Manages" is a relative term. Just because the NFL does it doesn't mean they do it well. Look at the yearly gong show you get when you call people on their summer vacations back to play a game they don't particularly care about. At least you can lure them to Hawaii for a free trip though right? You've also got to keep in mind the NFL Post Season is what...4 weeks?? It's much shorter than the NHL's.

How are you going to lure European players 2 months into their summer vacation to leave their families, fly out 12 hours and come for a week of fun and sun in smoggy Los Angeles to participate in a free game, especially if they've just exhausted themselves playing in the World Championships?

I'd imagine bonuses, if they don't already get them.

How to fix the NHL All-Star game~
-> Have voting occur over the summer while all the hockey fans are bored sick.
-> Have the game be played before exhibition starts.

-It would be a great way to get fans revved up for the season, much better than regular season games played overseas with no TV network willing to broadcast it live, and played when 90% of the league still has exhibition games to play.
-Any players from around the world will already be reporting for camp.
-Any players who retired at the end of the season can choose to participate or not. It's still a better option than voting in an injured Brodeur who is going to miss every game from now til the All Star game, but is still on the ballot, because voting is about who's name is more known than who is actually an All Star.

Ultimately, most guys who are getting ASG invites don't need the money. It works for the NFL because they fly everyone to a warm place in the dead of winter, and it has become a big event. The NHL just doesn't have that option, nor the pull with media types to pull it off.

Im actually ok with no rangers going (if it happens) for that reason. Rest > an extra 2 days of work). I think an ASG at the end of the year, similar to the pro bowl, would be good. Of course less fans would probably tune in to a hockey ASG in the summer, but the finals are at that time anyway soo...

I never liked fan voting, they should vote from a list of already selected all stars to get the starters. That way guys like kovalev or Price wouldnt water down the game.

i think it has been discussed last week and all the votes have been fixed.. HAbs player are still in advance but not by that much.. The funny thing is that they advertise the voting by saying ''VOTE NOW, VOTE OFTEN'' and then they go an complain about it lol..
