05-06 UD Rookie Update hobby boxes; were there redemptions?

I've had a box of this on my shelf since 05. I bought it on eBay, and it arrived open, so I assumed it was searched and just stuck it on the shelf.

Now I'm wondering, if it was searched for thick cards, maybe they missed a redemption card? Or other base like inserts?

I'm not too familiar with the product, so if anyone knows more about the breakdown, maybe I'll try my luck. It's not much use sitting there picked through, no one else will want it like that, lol.
 
I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to recall that either the Ovechkin or Crosby dual autograph rookie was a redemption, otherwise most of the cards were regular thickness besides the dual jerseys and the rarer patch variations of those. Some of the live dual autos weren't bad and there were tons of update rookies from products like Black Diamond, SpX, Artifacts, and SP Game Used. I opened a few boxes of it back in the day and it was fun enough.

If I remember correctly, the Crosby/Crosby was both live and a redemption. It sounds stupid, but I distinctly recall something about his card being weird, other than the fact that it was dual auto of a single player. I could be wrong though, hopefully someone else will have a definitive answer.
 
Crosby was absolutely a redemption. Those are /23 since they did not record the /199 serial numbers properly. The pack pulled ones were /199.

What on earth does this mean? /23 were redemptions (there was a version /23 of the duals?) while /199 pack inserterd?

They had 23 redemptions and the rest were packed out. They numbered the redemptions /23 instead of 199 by mistake when they were fulfilled if I recall correctly.

As for other redemptions, I think the Ovy/Kovy was a redemption. Based on my UD account...

And on top of that, I distinctly recall the Getzlaf/Spezza never being produced. May be the case for others as well.

Yeah... I was big on Rookie Update, and did three boxes at the Crosby hype initial pricing. Nada on dual autos as I think they were one or two a case. Pile on half of them being redemptions anyway, and it was block of ice time lol.

It was made, but I think they swapped Eric Staal in.
 
Can't believe I don't remember any of this. Was very active back in those days.

So there were 176 Crosby's inserted (numbered up to /199) in packs and 23 redemptions that got a brand new numbering 1-23/23?

This is fascinating stuff, fellas. Wish we were back in those days.
 
Hello everyone, I decided to crack the packs last night and see just how picked over it was, and I was right. Well searched. 24 packs, and the hits were two Black Diamond RCs and four Rookie Update RCs, none of note. And, no complete base set. Up side is now I can stop staring at it, lol.

Now that sealed 96-97 Pinnacle Hobby box, that continues to call for me.......
