06/07 The Cup?

Not sure if this was posted before, but just curious as to why The Cup is being considered an 05/06 release when it should be an 06/07 set? Wasn't the cutoff date for 05/06 products June 30?

If this is the case, should "the rookies" in The Cup actually be considered RCs?

There's been nothing 'official' about the cutoff date being June 30, although that seems to have been the case in the past. I believe it has been mentioned that June 30 was the cutoff for details to be submitted to the NHLPA/NHL/whoever decides these things.

The rookie cutoff date was changed this year as well, likely due to one manufacturer making the decisions.

Because Hot Prospects wasn't $350 a pack

Mainly I think it wasn't discussed, because the plans for that set came out months ago. Back in December I believe. 06-07 Victory, Ultra, Showcase, and Jersey Edition were all advertised well before The Cup was officially announced. How UD could get four 06-07 licenses and still have the ability to create an 05-06 product a month or so later, boggles my mind.

Because there is no way of knowing whether the Cup was approved before the 06/07 licenses. If I had to guess, I would say the announcement of The Cup was delayed so long so as not to take the shine off Ultimate. Although, it isn't like The Cup came out of nowhere, it had been widely rumoured for some time.

Seems as if that product was off and on so many times over the last couple of months. Personally I think it should have licked off next years product line up. But I also failed marketing 101.

that product has been in the works all year,they just kept pulling it off the table so it would sell sp authentic,and ultimate,saying its cancelled allowed people to spend there money on the others and then pow its back on the table as everyone busted there fair share of the products,and will now dig deeper for the cup that they coveted way back at christmas,ud marketing are brillant,say its cancelled sell there product then say oops its on and within a 3 week period you have a pre order and its out
