08 / 09 NHL Rookie Information

Hi guys

I want to start a new player collection to commemorate the birth of my new daughter - the idea being that it would be a collection we could grow together as she gets older.

My initial thought was a former / current player who was born on 19th March, but that limited me to Vladimir Konstantinov. Although his story is one that struck a chord with me, I realise that competing with die hard Redwings fans would be collecting suicide for me.

My next thought was somebody who made his NHL debut the night my daughter was born - the start of something huge for them both.

Does anybody have any ideas where I can find a list of who made their debuts on 19th March ?

Failing that, anybody have any other suggestions

Hmm my knowledge is very limited as to when a player starts their career that late into the season, but there is a highly touted kid starting his career very recently, that being Kyle Turris of the Phoenix Coyotes, you might want to wait until the 08-09 season before any of his rookie cards are out though.

BTW congrats on the birth of your daughter!
 
I have no idea where to find that info, but its gotta be somewhere on the net ;)

How about collecting a player wearing the number 19?

First, congrats on the new addition!

Second, I went to the NHL schedule site here: http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app and checked out the notes from each of the boxscores from the 19th. I couldn't find any player debuts, but it was the night of Nigel Dawes kicking butt and winning a game in shootout.

I didn't see anything major from that night either, Vanek and Zetterberg both had hat tricks, Tony Esposito was honored in Chicago where Khabibulin got a shut-out, and that's about it.
 
Bobby Clarke scored his 1000th point on March 19, as did Bernie Federko.

I think ITG included this in theeir "On this Day" insert in UM6 or 7, or whatever the name of it was
 
Some 2008-2009 rookies for next season:
Claude Giroux (my favorite)
Kyle Turris
Steve Mason
Justin Pogge
Maybe Steve Stampkos pending who draft's him
Angelo Esposito is another possibility
 
Random way of finding info, off by one day but Cory Schnieder was born March 18! A top goalie prospect for the Nucks that was drafted in the 1st round.
 
Bobby Ryan was born on March 17th - which isn't spot on what you are looking for but you can get a lot of his stuff at a pretty decent price at the moment and I think he has a pretty high upside.

That's not a bad checklist for me - obviously now he's debuted in the big show he should be included in some bigger and better sets, but he will have missed most of the 07/08 issues.

Will go home and mention it to my two week old daughter - if she doesn't cry it's a goer !!

Save the scoresheet from that game. Then you have a reason when your 16 year old daughter asks you why you picked a guy named 'Boris' for her collection....

Strangely enough - when my wife was pregnant we didn't find out whether it was a boy or a girl, we liked the name Millie for a girl but didn't have any boys names.

Over here there is a baby shop called Mamas & Papas, who do a range of nursey furniture and toys called Millie & Boris ........ so for nine months we called our unborn child Millie or Boris ( it alternated weekly )

So it's fate that Millie should collect Boris !

I've been on Ebay and found 5 of the 6 cards already - could be a good player collection
