You will quickly learn not to put any stock in Beckett values, HI or LO. The real "value" is what you are willing to pay, and what others are paying.

Having been in the sports card hobby/business for nearly 27 years now I really don't think there's much else to learn....though I don't mind being proven wrong in that department......I love to learn ;) I may be new to following hockey, but am certainly not new to the hobby. I've been here since before Ebay, before Beckett, before Tough Stuff and probably before many on this board were in 1st grade :). I know, as many, that a price guide is just that....a guide. I also know that most Ebay sellers overprice their items to maximize their greed. My comment was more to say that I am glad the low book is closer to what I (and others) feel the actual selling price of this card will be. It is not a $50-$60 card...atleast not yet it isn't.

The initial wave of Stamkos YG's were listed...and some sold..in the $50-$60 range. Now? The last two have sold for $20.63 and $26.78 respectively. I certainly plan to nab the next one that ends in that neighborhood. And you're right...the true "value" of a card is what a buyer is willing to pay. I'm just not one of the dolts willing to pay $60 for a $25-$30 card.

So, do I put stock in Beckett prices? Absolutely not. However, do I know the industry and have a basic feel for what a cards actual price should be? I'd like to think so.
 
Schenn is the 2nd highest priced? talk about Toronto hype... and Oshie and Pietrangelo book for more than Berglund? it seems that some buyers haven't been watching any games that these guys are playing in...

Look at D'Agostini. 4 goals and he's shot up from a common to $20!

I bought a couple boxes a month ago and pulled a D'Agostini. Didn't pay much attention to it as they were selling as commons at the time. I never got to putting them on eBay until a couple days ago and I had bidders on it about an hour after the card was listed!

Sorry, I was under the impression you were new to the hobby and to hockey. Just thought I'd pass along a tip, certainly didn't mean to offend you. :)

Next month I'll be alive for 27 years, so I'll keep my mouth shut! ;)
 
on the weekend D'agostini was selling for over $25 US, god damn Habs fans are idiots LOL

One sold yesterday for $51 US plus $1.50 shipping. Put it in CDN and you are at $60.

One low price doesn't set a price. That is why there is a range. This one is right on if you ask me.

Show me one example of a Young Gun on EBAY selling for a buck. Are you forgetting S & H costs?
Of course Beckett is only a guide, but it's a guide many collectors rely upon and is a much better indicator than EBAY.

Do an Ebay search for completed auctions and you can find 08/09 Young Guns selling for $0.01

a part can be recouped, but not the totality. You still have to put gas in the car to go to the post office, and fees to pay at the post office.

I just bought 5 YGs last week... total price with shipping was $7.00. If you really tried, I'm sure you could have picked them up cheaper than that.

How is Beckett a much better indicator than what it sells for on ebay?? I cant remember the last time I paid book price for a card, but then again I cant remember the last time I wasted $4 for a Beckett either
