09 SPGU..good or bad? How much?

How much are boxes of 08-09 SPGU going for?

For those who have opened it, are you pleased or disappointed with your break?
 
Too much. We've been fairly disappointed. Considering that we've broken boxes from several different cases and ended up with 3 Bernie Federko Team Marks (very low resale value)...:| Some good pieces, but mostly not worth it. We've started venturing towards the non-sport side of trading cards. :)

I think it would be difficult to get a box for less than $200.

I for one would never touch it again, I went halves on a box for a gamble. The total BV of about $30.00 I think we might have gotten back 20 on ebay.

I have seen some people do extremely well however and come out with amazing stuff. It might also appeal to those who enjoy little pieces of chopped up jerseys with their cardboard.
 
I paid about $600 Canadian for three boxes and was able to recoup only $150 US on eBay. I didn't even pull a Bruins card for my PC.
I know busting wax is a big gamble, but I thought that was a ridiculous return on my investment.
On the other hand, I bought one pack of UD Black and pulled Stamkos Lettermen Patch RC redemption out of 99, so you win some, you lose some...
 
It's really hit and miss.

In spite of an Orr Team marks in my 3.5 boxes, I got rocked pretty good.
On the singles side, I've been picking up stuff at, IMO, very good prices.

That said, it's a product that needs to be put out to pasture.
 
Yikes, don't sound very positive. I guess I will avoid it, thanks for the heads up.

Tina, what sort of non-sport cards are you starting to collect?

Picked up a couple of autographed cards from the TV shows Supernatural, CSI Las Vegas. We might dabble in the Harry Potter autographed cards, but whoa, those autos are expensive :eek:
 
No idea. Haven't opened a pack. Not worth it.

And keep in mind, this is the guy who said for the last three years:
"Enough piddlin' around: time to bust SPGU and lose some serious money."
 
I opend two boxes and Marian Hossa is chasing me around so I say not worth it.. espc when they do the old .. Patch to 25 with Card calling him a Red Wing, Pic is him in Pittsburgh and Patch is 3 color from Atlanta... then Signifiant numbers is picture from Atlanta wearing #18 and its numbered out of 81 .... and well we all know the quality of his autos...

I wish, I hit an Orr Team Marks, it would have been the best card of a case I busted! I've really liked SPGU in past, and got 2 decent hits in my case last year. This year 2 Quads /10, but now that quads are a dime a dozen, I'd be lucky to get $50 for them.
 
Had a very weak moment and opened a box this weekend. Probably the best box I have ever opened!! I say the best because it was so bad it convinced me right on the spot to walk away from the hobby!! Absolutely incredible that they can charge that much money and put that kind of garbage in the box!!! I now have the luxury of spending my money in a much more productive manner!

Yea SPGU is highway robbery, I really think UD has got to change things up or they will lose alot of collectors.
 
It's just one of those hit or miss products. It's not really surprising that when a product has cards worth over 1k there will be people gunning for them regardless of what is likely in the box --ie you're not even likely to a get a cash for BV swap, much less sale value.

For the record I opened one box and did pretty well Mason Sig Swatches, Colton Gillies 1/1 and then the usual jerseys.
 
Never will touch the stuff....When you watch whats busted on the H.I. Boards the odds are not good at all!!! this is a case buyers product and gamblers...

When ever i see this stuff i just ask "Sooo How many $8.00 jersey cards do i get per Box again???"

My boxes are $1,000,000 plus tax.

It may seem steep to you but I only really need to sell one.

I'll just tell Shane that's there's a chance at a Carry Price patch......
 
I've watched three SPGU box breaks at the local shop and it was the most heartbreaking thing to see a grown man almost cry. It's funny how people are now starting to see how poor resale value in a lot of this stuff really is.

I'm with those who have jumped on the non sports bandwagon. Better music and the shocks on the wagon are brand new.
 
I like the product. Most of my boxes have been quite good. I pay $130 US- I find it to be nearly as fun a break as OPC Premier from last year.
