I'm sorry, I think this is one of the dumbest cards I have ever seen. I can understand the dual SOTT as they are regular team and team canada but boo on you UD, why no Kane/Kane Hawks/USA or Kessel/Kessel TO/USA or Ovechkin/Ovechkin Caps/Russia etc. Every Country other then Canada gets the shaft in almost every product made. I understand Canada is the hockey meca and all that, but look at USA themed sets like the Decades autos and the Miracle Men autos, they always do extremely well and are highly collected. The Programme of Excellence is a cool niche set, but why not have one for the Russian team or Sweden or USA or Finland or Czechs? Doesn't make sense to me, if anyone really thinks those sets would not sell through the roof, well.... Could you imagine what a Selanne /10 would go for? Or Kovalev, Malkin, Ovechkin, Larionov, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Chara, Datsyuk, Kane, Kessel, Kesler, Miller, Thomas, etc.

My bank account and I are not complaining at all -- but I can't help but notice that Upper Deck has been pushing Tuukka Rask in every set this season, while about halfway through the year Panini really started using Tim Thomas heavily (and he's in all the big sets in Dominion). I don't see a single Thomas card in The Cup as of yet.
Between this, new-team photography, and rookie inclusion (hello Alex Stalock), it's becoming evident that Panini is far quicker at adapting their products and checklists to what's happening on the ice.
On the "plus" side -- one thing I like about the hand numbering is that most of the sets seem to have specific areas designed for it -- either bracketed, or whited out, but somehow accounted for in the layout. Makes it look professional, while still having the appealing human element to the pen numbering.

I get that, but you don't need the license to make the cards with the generic theme, and they still sell very well. Even if they called them something like Countrymen or Country Pride or whatever.

Ahhh, I see. The Miracle Men set came out during the lockout year right? The UD products were still licensed that year weren't they?

That's what I was missing, current NHL rostered players is the key I guess. Well, they could still do retired players maybe, Tkachuk, Hull, Modano (if he's retired), Richter, Leetch, etc. Don't you think a 96 World Cup USA set would be highly collected? Come on, Joel Otto Auto /10, I'm all over it (i'm not joking, he was my favorite player on that squad believe it or not). Throw in Chelios, Hatcher, Hatcher, Amonte, Guerin, etc. How about a duals /5 called border battles and have a Lindros/Tkachuk? No one can forget Big E trying to decapitate Tkachuk with that baseball swing to the back of the neck right?
