11-12 Artifacts Case?

This question goes out to those who have purchased a case of Artifacts in the past. My wife (yes, my wife) wants to buy a case of 11-12 Artifacts, but that price tag is pretty hefty. Do you think there is value in picking up a 16-box case? Chances of pulling a 1/1 or card numbered to 10 or less? I'd like to try and at least recoup some of the cost in the case. I'm not the biggest fan of Artifacts, so I'm pretty hesitant, so please help with your experiences.

Card store owners, if you can put your 2 cents in too, that would be appreciated. Thank you!
 
In a sixteen box case of artifacts, you would think, you would get atleast one card #/10 or less lol. This years looks great, auto rookie redemptions /99, autograph patch tags, etc. For $1200 a case you should get a decent amount back, especially if you hit one of the big rookies, or one of those "new" 1/1s that they are putting in..sounds like a fun gamble though, Artifacts is a fun bust, and it looks good this year..just my two cents!
 
I bought a case of the 05/06 series and my hits were a Lindros dual jsy 1/1 and also pulled 2 Ovechkin rookie redemption. Also pulled some nice vintage patch cards. With that said, I didn't think it was worth the price. I haven't seen this years previews and I wasn't a fan with all the parallels and the card numbered to 10 could just be a base parallel and not a game used ?/10. But now they have tag cards in the set and last year they weren't a 1/1 so getting a tag is quite possible in case.

*If your wife said "Case of Artifacts or nothing", I would be all over the Artifacts case and be happy that your opening a case(unless she wants to "buy it" means, you still pay then I would convince her to go for something else).

We had a guy bust a case at the store and he pulled many cards out of 10 or less. He pulled 2 or 3 tag cards in his case. It is a fun break and at 16 boxes I think it betters your chances on recouping some money, Dan
 
I dunno, JD.. I've had 3 different cards to chase from last year's Artifacts, and of course each one had enough parallels that 3 cards turned into 27 including 'em all (not including the 1/1 versions), and the chase is what I consider the fun part. I'm down to one parallel left (Treasured Swatches Jersey Gold /5), and I know EVENTUALLY it'll show up. I've seen 3 of the the Frozen Fabrics Jersey Gold /5s, but none of the Treasured Swatches.. but if they were ALL easy, where would the fun be?
 
I picked up a case of 06/07 artifacts and made out pretty well. The only 1/1 was a base Shanahan card, but had a Brodeur patch /5, Lemieux+Crosby tandems /50, Gretzky+Anderson tandems /50, Sp autos of Gretzky and Crosby. Throw in a few other tandem and single patches and it was definately worth the cost.
By the way if my wife ever wanted to buy a pack of anything, let alone a case, I would have her in the car and to the LCS before she knew what was happening, lol!!!!:beer:

I'd have done back flips for 27 Derek Roy's. He had 50+, more than half of which were /15 or less. I've tracked down like 40 of them and it's just become a chore at this point. I don't mind a challenge but Certified and Artifacts just got ridiculous.
 
I've only done 1 box (07/08), and I had great returns...I was able to turn it plus a Havlat/Heatley/Spezza 99-00 BAP Auto into a Mike Richards Cup RC. Good value for me.
 
Artifacts? Blech. Light your money on fire instead.

Unless of course, you like rookie redemptions, a seemingly endlesss smorgasboard of dollar bin jersey and 5-dollar bin patch cards, and sticker autos of scrubs.

I can immediately think of at least 5 better products to crack if you're thinking about spending that much money.

50+?? Jumpin' Jayzus.. that's getting on ridiculous from one product! How many "different" series are there? Is that 5 different cards with 9 parallels each or are there more or less?

Yep, 10-11 Artifacts and 10-11 Certified made me think about stopping the ol' Jordan Staal collection but I have already spent so much money, but more importantly, time tracking down as much as I can, I couldn't bring myself to stop. I dread 11-12 Artifacts, lol.

The list is just getting stupid. Here is Jordan Staal's 10-11 Artifacts and Certified lists. Thankfully, I am only missing 11 cards out of this mess. (8 are numbered to /5 and 2 are numbered to /10....good luck to me!)


Keep this list in mind if you are a player collector. Why do we bother?

Too many parallels in Artifacts, which really brings down the value of all the cards that aren't #'d 10 or less.

There's better products to buy a case of.
 
Hey Guys,

Thanks so much for all the feedback. When considering whether to put that kinda money down on a product, it's great to know what everybody else's thoughts are. Looks like a lot of mixed reviews.

I haven't made the decision yet...my LCS gave me another week to decide before his "deadline." I know it's completely unreasonable to think that I'd get my purchase price back in card sales, but I'm kinda hoping to at least get back half.

So maybe a modification to the question...Is it reasonable to assume I could make half of the case price back in sales? (If I do, there's the money for 11-12 Upper Deck Series 1!) So it's like "Buy One Get One Free" in a sense, right?

Oh, the lies I tell myself to feed the habit!
 
If you do end up going for the case of artifacts, can I have first dibbs on the autofacts? please.
