Just announced - here are the specs:

One of the problems with exclusive deals is that some of the most popular brands and formats can skip a sport. For hockey, there was a lengthy void when it came to chromium products. That changed with Panini Prizm to a certain extent, but that was short-lived with Upper Deck regaining an exclusive license. How quickly things can change. 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey is the second chromium product of the year following 2014-15 ITG Leaf Metal. While ITG's is an all-autograph release that focuses mainly on CHL prospects, 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey has a configuration that's closer to baseball's Bowman Chrome than Panini's go with Prizm.

Hobby boxes have one on-card rookie autograph, a die-cut insert and lot of parallels.

The 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey base set has 200 cards, keeping it much smaller than base O-Pee-Chee Hockey.

Whether it goes by Chrome, Prizm, or some other similar brand, shiny parallels have long been a staple of most every chromium set. Things are no different here. With the Refractor name connected so closely with Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome, Upper Deck is going with the Rainbow name to describe Platinum's parallels. Basic Rainbows are inserted 1:3 packs. Other versions include Rainbow Trax (1:20), White Ice (#/199), Red Prism (#/135), Blue Cubes (#/65), Seismic Gold (#/50), Black Ice (#/25) and Golden Treasures (1/1). Collectors can also look for randomly inserted Photo Variations.

The Retro name is carrying over from base O-Pee-Chee. But rather than being a full parallel set, it covers half of the OPC Platinum base set including 30 rookies. Retro cards are inserted six per box. Parallels include Rainbow (1:20), Black (#/100), Red (1:160) and Autographed Rainbow (1:160).

Another big thing about Bowman Chrome Baseball is the promise of an on-card prospect autograph per hobby box. 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey takes that and applies it to rookie autographs. On average, there's one per box, each hard-signed. And rather than making a massive checklist where landing any given player is extremely tough, the checklist here is limited to 30 key rookies. Rookie autographs have five levels of parallels.

The product rounds out with three sets of die-cut inserts that combine to fall one per hobby box. These come in three different styles: Superstar, Legends and Stanley Cup Champs. These also have autographed versions.

2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Hockey isn't the first time Upper Deck has brought chromium to the O-Pee-Chee brand. 2008-09 O-Pee-Chee Metal Hockey was an attempt at doing something similar to Chrome. However, it failed to catch on at the time. The product was more like the years Topps mixed Topps Traded and Topps Chrome Traded where the base and chromium sets were packaged together. OPC Metal cards were like a set-within-a-set for 2008-09 O-Pee-Chee Update Hockey. With Platinum, Upper Deck is going all-in with the chromium theme.

What do you guys think? The rookie autos (on card!) look quite nice - an alternative to SPA if the latter is not attractive (as has been the case in recent years).

Reminds me overall of 03-04 Bowman Chrome.

While I appreciate the idea - those Stanley Cup Champs cards are a blatant rip off.

I am fairly excited to see what the rest of the cards look like however.

Yup, disappointing.

So now we have 2 O-Pee-Chee sets??? Pray to god with a name like Platinum we will not be bled out of pocket for it...

True, though the Bowman/Bowman Chrome thing seems to work well in other sports.

I'm guessing 80-100 bucks a box. Wait 6 months and find it for 40. Hope I'm wrong but it sounds like prizm.

The on card autos make the difference for me. The stickers in Prizm are the only thing that kept me away from an otherwise attractive product.

Aside from the awful names for the color parallels, this looks interesting. It seems to have things that a lot of people have asked for such as shiny, on-card autos, and die cuts. For me having something like Bowman/Topps Chrome is fun, even as a non-player collector. Prizm was close, but I wasn't a fan of the textured cards and sticker autos at the price point. I'll likely buy some cases of it. Just when I thought I was done with OPC (in the process of sorting 11 cases worth as we speak), they pull be back in!

I like this...if they can find a way to not run the presses on this one, this will be a sleeper. Good on UD for bringing some "shine" back to O-Pee-Chee!

I bet a lot of that has to do with brand loyalty. OPC might do fine for Canada, but I think if they were branded as Topps or Bowman, it would be even better overall.

Wow this actually looks pretty cool! Hope the price point is around 50$ a box

Never gonna happen. Expect this to be around $80 a box. Hard signed autos and chromium product means higher $$$

I love this idea. It's basically a new version of OPC Chrome. I'll be busting lots

Frank ripping a truck load of an OPC product? Who would have seen that coming? ;) Best of luck buddy.

I like it. Lots of colourful parallels and nothing crazy low numbered. I'll be in for a few boxes and breaks as well.
