16/17 UD ICE Box Serial Numbers

Was at the LCS today getting some SP Authentic and there was a group of guys buying 16/17 UD Ice boxes. They were examining every box'es Serial Number on the outside and only took certain boxes.

Store owner emailed me later and asked if I knew anything about why they were doing that?

I know in the past there have been instances of UD having detectable serial numbers on their boxes- anything about that with ICE?

Pure superstition. I've seen guys who look for 68 for Jagr, I've seen favorite numbers, I've seen no multiples of 13, lol.

I've only heard of it in the past from a personal superstition point of view as well Bruce. Could change at any time of course, but never heard of being able to detect contents based on the serial number of the case.

If a box had a serial number that ended with 21 or 24, I would buy them. If none ended with those numbers, I had the shop owner pick for me. Pure superstition on my part with numbers that meant something to me. I have heard rumors about serial numbers with 99 in them, but trust me, my wallet disproved it way too many times.

First of all - if there's a way to figure out a pattern, someone will figure it out if enough has been opened.

Two - if I was a store owner, I wouldn't let anyone examine boxes. Everyone should have an equal chance to get a great hit - it's good for business if great hits come out of a store... If they asked for serial numbers on the hologram - the store owner can tell them the last two numbers on a few boxes that are there, but don't let them handle the product if they are specifically going through them.

I always look at the last two digits on the serial numbers. I hope to find 08 for my birthday, 03 for my wife and then 17 and 25 for my daughters. Just a fun way to buy boxes.

And sometimes I will thinking of a certain players numbers and if I see that number I will buy that box as well.

Am I searching for a code? NO, just a fun way to buy.

One of the locals where I buy boxes, there is one guy who always ask for the third box on the shelf. The owner shuffles boxes and packs when he opens cases and boxes for the shelf but this guy just likes box three.

sometimes I pick the outlier number, if there is one box that out of a sequence, i will buy that box lol
