I stumbled across this on the bay:

Auctions like this make me wonder if any of the high grade Orr RC's are from packs... Same goes for Gretzky, etc... Also, notice all the PSA 9 OPC cards the guy has for sale. Interesting.... At least the guy isnt also auctioning off a laser too.

Print overruns were and have been common. A company will overprint by 5-10% to compensate for minor blemishes, etc. When Upper Deck or any other company replaces damaged cards they have to come from somewhere. The rest is/was used as promos etc.

The backdoor at printers s another issue.Before cards became a big business. no one cared about security. In fact if you read "Card Sharks, Upper Deck", Pete Williams, (1995), MacMillan it was a major problem at Upper Deck in the early days of the company.

The 1974-75 O-Pee-Chee NHL set was distributed nationally in Canada in uncut sheet form thru a few of the second tier big box stores of the era.

Also various companies have sold archival material over the years as part of a going out of business sale, bankruptcy, estate sale, etc.

Fake question. The cost of producing fakes is astronomical. From getting the presses running to finding the same type/quality cardboard that was used in the 1960's precludes profit on limited press runs. Also it would require finding a functional printing press from the sixties able to print sheets in the size required for a
12 x 11 or 11 x 12 card matrix. Today's print technology cannot be dumbed down to produce 1960's quality. Then you would have to overcome the forensics that would determine aging.

I was thinking the same thing... Anyways, I'm going to enjoy finally being able to scope out their wares at the Fall Expo and maybe do a bit of 'Point & Laugh!' lol

It's an interesting item to be sure though - I'll be putting it in my watch list to see what happens.

I'm guessing that the sheet might be damaged around the Orr card itself. If there's a minor blemish around the Orr (nick, scrape, scratch, etc.) then it's not in the seller's best interest to cut the sheet down.

Go to Martin's booth and you'll see examples of sheets that aren't worth cutting because of minor imperfections.

Right - but his listing says the Orr has no noticeable imperfections... regardless, who the heck is going to buy a $40,000 sheet of cards off ebay without seeing it for themselves??
