2003 1st Round will be 30/30 Tonight!

Hugh Jessiman is scheduled to make his NHL debut tonight. He is the last remaining First Round Pick from 2003 to play in the NHL. Maybe he isn't a bust afterall :giggity:

Imagine if the Rangers had drafted Parise instead of Hugh? Or maybe Mike Richards on the Rangers?

So the Rags had a 1 in 30 chance of picking the bust....and they hit it.

Luckily they have made up big time for lost time. lol.

Hope he does ok, he's waited a long time for this.

cool story, I love seeing RCs with photos of guys with half a head of hair or a biiiiiig full beard :)

Dunno why...but Hugh Jessiman's name always reminds me of Hugh Jass from the Simpsons.

"Hello, I'm Hugh Jass"

Glad he finally made it though...even if only for a handful of games, it'll end that stigma of him being the only guy out of a gifted draft class never to make it to the show.

still the biggest bust of the gifted class. :|

Well yeah, but at least he made it though right? Anyway, it won't take much to move past Shawn Belle on the 1st round bust list, even though I guess you can argue Belle was the last guy taken while Hugh Jass was pretty high up there.

Hugh was taken ahead of Brown, Parise, Getzlaf, Burns, Kesler, Richards, and Perry among others whereas Belle was, at the very least, taken behind these guys. Those are some pretty lofty names right there. The last pick of the first round rarely turns out to be anything good anyways for whatever reason.

Round # Team Player
1 1 Pittsburgh Marc-Andre Fleury G
1 2 Carolina Eric Staal C
1 3 Florida Nathan Horton
1 4 Columbus Nikolai Zherdev
1 5 Buffalo Thomas Vanek R
1 6 San Jose Milan Michalek L
1 7 Nashville Ryan Suter D
1 8 Atlanta Braydon Coburn D
1 9 Calgary Dion Phaneuf D
1 10 Mtl. Canadiens Andrei Kostitsyn
1 11 Philadelphia Jeff Carter C
1 12 NY Rangers Hugh Jessiman R
1 13 Los Angeles Dustin Brown R
1 14 Chicago Brent Seabrook D
1 15 NY Islanders Robert Nilsson C
1 16 San Jose Steve Bernier R
1 17 New Jersey Zach Parise C
1 18 Washington Eric Fehr R
1 19 Anaheim Ryan Getzlaf C
1 20 Minnesota Brent Burns D
1 21 Boston Mark Stuart D
1 22 Edmonton Marc-Antoine Pouliot
1 23 Vancouver Ryan Kesler C
1 24 Philadelphia Mike Richards C
1 25 Florida Anthony Stewart R
1 26 Los Angeles Brian Boyle C
1 27 Los Angeles Jeff Tambellini L
1 28 Anaheim Corey Perry R
1 29 Ottawa Patrick Eaves R
1 30 St. Louis Shawn Belle D

Other than a few names, that is one impressive list. I cant help notice that Zherdev was 4th :| At least the Rags tried to make up for their bad pick by grabbing Boyle.

Despite picking 19th and 28th, the Ducks got two solid first line players in Getzlaf and Perry...

Drafting is part skill, part luck. The fact that all 30 of those guys actually ended up playing in the NHL is a testament to how good the draft class was that year.

also shows how the Rangers had a better chance with throwing a dart at any of the above mentioned names than "skillfully" selecting Jessiman.

Even though that's a pretty big achievment to have everybody play in the big leagues, a lot of those players would be considered busts now, relative to their expectations.......

How about this for the rest of the 2003 draft...

Round 2.. Loui Eriksson, Patrice Bergeron, Matt Carle, Shea Weber, Corey Crawford, Maxim Lapierre, David Backes, Jimmy Howard

Round 3.. Dan Carcillo, Clarke MacArthur, Ryan O Bryne, Zack Stortini

Round 4.. Jan Hejda, BizNasty, Kyle Quincey

Round 5.. Brett Sterling, Lee Stempniak, Nigel Dawes

Rounds 6-9.. Drew Miller, Tobias Enstrom, Dustin Byfuglien, Matt Moulson, Jaroslav Halak, Brian Elliott
