Doing a daily Luongo search and noticed, just by luck, that there is both a Silver and Gold Version of the 2006-07 Fleer Base card. This isn't listed in the SCF checklist, and it isn't the tiffany version. Is it a hobby/retail thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

yes, they just randomly came up next to each other in ebay and I've never noticed the 2 color schemes. From what I can tell the set is supposedly to have a gold border. There is a silver one and I'm just confused. Any insight?

For those wondering what we are talking about...

Version that is common...

The silver version I have no idea about..

There were tins released of this set. Maybe they were retail? Maybe those had the silver variation? Like I said, SCF and various other checklist sites like break ninja mention nothing of it and it's throwing me for a loop.

Someone get to the bottom of this!!! lol

I just looked through several 100 pics on comc and ebay and center ice collectables and cant find a single other example for any other player, or any other luongos for that matter. The rookies from this set have the silver border, not sure why this particular base card does? The seller on ebay has some other base from the set listed but no other silvers. Getting this listed on SCF is the easy part :) but I would like more info too if possible. Everything I see so far points to a one off. I am guessing this is the first silver version you have seen ?

Sellers response to my question regarding card: Hi,

I pulled this out of a 2006-07 fleer hockey retail pack. I am not sure if this is a parallel or short print etc. I have checked the fleer checklist but see no reference to silver border. Not sure what this is. :)

In the 2000's Fleer had products that included a team themed toy car and a Fleer card packed together. They did this with their baseball, football and basketball lines. Don't know if they had something like this for hockey that was planned and maybe ended up in a retail box by mistake.

Just an FYI to everyone, it is not silver, I received the "silver" Wellwood today and it is gold, it is just the angle and lighting that makes it look silver in the picture
