Verified Trader,
The 2007-08 SPx Master set checks in at 410 cards - 100 base, 25 Flashback Fabrics, 24 Autographed Flashback Fabrics, 30 Standard Rookies, 19 Rookie Cards with Jersey Swatches, 37 Rookie Cards with Jersey Swatches and Autographs, 5 SPx Force Hologram cards, 50 Winning Combos dual jersey cards, 50 Winning Materials dual jersey cards, and 70 spXtreme subset cards - 20 retired players, 30 active veterans, and 20 rookies.
I did a massive cost analysis worksheet that suggested that SPx was probably going to be amongst the best investment sets of the year. While that's awesome and all, I fell in love with the set design and inserts before finishing my first box.
In my first pack, I pulled a Autographed Flashback Fabrics card of Martin Brodeur, and stared at in for a good 30 seconds. This was easily one of the most amazing subsets I've ever seen. Based on previous years' pricing, it would also be expensive and cost prohibitive to attempt.
I had pre-ordered a case of the SPx product, and when it arrived, I cracked it in record time. My wife and I loved the product and we had some nice hits - Carey Price, Nicklas Backstrom, a gorgeous Ales Hemsky Spectrum Winning Materials card, an Evgeni Malkin Spectrum Radiance base card parallel autographed with a jersey swatch, and limited to 10.
I wanted to build the set. Well, the rookie set, and maybe the spXtreme and holograms as well. It'd be a nice thing to finish, especially with this year's strong rookie crop.
Ultimately, I finished the set. 410 cards. I've scanned all the cards, and placed most of the images online. Over the few days or so, I'll be posting scans from major subsets.
I'm going to start things off strong with the 6 card Level 1 rookies limited to 499.
Nothing especially interesting in the way of stories for these 6. Price and Backstrom came from my case. Tlusty was the next one acquired in an auction from a guy who apparently lived down the street from me by a couple miles. Mueller, Kane and ultimately Toews also came via eBay, but it took a couple tries to get it right: The first Mueller I received wasn't in the stated NmMt or better condition. Rather, multiple bad corners, and a crease in one of the jersey spots. The Toews was actually the second one to pass through me. A seller who I bought a number of jersey cards from accidentally sent me the Toews as it was supposed to go to another customer. Of course I let him know of his mistake, and he helped me out by discounting some of the /999 Auto Jersey Rookies I needed.
These are a lot I'd like to trade up a bit. Only 2 of the 6 feature multiple color swatches.
Enjoy this first lot.
Cheers,
Michael
