2010 NHL Entry Draft

I honestly have no idea what the Blackhawks are doing. Second year in a row they go way off the board and take a player way down on the list. Then they trade the 30th pick to move farther down when there was still good talent available. I guess you can't argue with what the Bowmans have done so far, but aside from a very obvious salary dump, they traded Byfuglien, Sopel, and Eager for a kid that will probably never play a game in the NHL that they wasted the 24th pick on, 2 prospects that may or may not ever see the NHL, and Marty Reasoner. Great. I know they were targetting McIlrath who was gone, the main guy they wanted Sheahan was snagged by the friggin Wings when everyone had them going after a Russian or Swede, but they were very high on Coyle and Nelson who were still there at 24, Nelson still there at 30 yet they trade out of the spot. I thought maybe they were going after Etem or McFarland, but no. The only thing I can think is they couldn't work out a larger trade, and they are just drafting guys they won't have to pay for 3 or 4 years? Who knows, but this had a chance to be a great draft for them to add more depth and instead it is turning into a mess.

They can't draft anybody that might make the team come preseason. The cap hit would kill them. They now have 5 second round picks. With everyone saying how equal most of the players left in the draft (2nd round) are, it looks to me they are going to get some decent players. The other options are that they are loading up to trade those picks away in a bigger trade.

With most of the Hawks still in their mid to early twenties all they need to do is bring up a couple of players from the minors every year for a few more years. They still have plenty of depth in the system. I wasn't expecting them to draft anybody that would be ready for at least a couple of more years.

Kiril Kabanov falls all the way to 65 to the Islanders, that could be the steal of the draft.

Also Florida getting John McFarland gets them another good prospect, they've loaded up this draft

I've seen McFarland play about 14 times - Only once was I impressed. A lot of floating in the games I've seen.

Tampa got a player with a lot of potential in Brock Beukeboom. Not much on the offence but could turn into a good shutdown Defender after a few years.

Columbus fans will love their first round pick. Good sized center, plays with an edge and hass incredible hands. I was able to watch him play quite a few games in the WHL and he stood out every time he was on the ice. I compare him to Brandon Dubinsky just not as pesky, and he has better offensive touch then Dubinsky.

What I really like about him is he was neverr the top rated player, never the super star, didn't play at the highest level hockey every year, he was just a work horse who gave everything he had every time he played. Love the pick, even though a lot of Columbus fans here were cheering against the Hawks in the playoffs.....

Thanks, but then again I was cheering for the Hawks... :D
