2011 STANLEY CUP FINAL

The National Hockey League announced the 2011 Stanley Cup Final schedule.

Based on their NHL-best regular-season performance, the Canucks will host Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, as well as Games 5 and 7, if necessary. Games 3 and 4 will be played in either Boston or Tampa Bay, as well as Game 6, if necessary.

NBC will telecast Games 1 and 2 and, if necessary, Games 5 through 7 of the best-of-seven series in the U.S., while VERSUS will broadcast Games 3 and 4. In Canada, CBC and RDS will provide coverage for the entire series. All games also will be carried on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

NHL Network, the League's 24-hour, all-access pass to the most comprehensive hockey coverage, will feature special programming surrounding the Stanley Cup Final. NHL.com will continue to provide extensive digital coverage.

Wow - not starting until next Wednesday, and only one weekend game? NBC must have a bunch of holes in their TV schedule during prime time to fill...

I'm sure the Vancouver fans will enjoy those 5pm start times in the middle of the week too.

Brutal, I don't like it at all. I was hoping for games 3 and 4 to be a Friday/Sunday affair so I could take the weekend off and go see two games but I guess that's not gonna happen any longer

Plain and simple......the schedule is set as to NOT conflict with the NBA Finals..........which is an extremely intelligent move on the NHL's part........been like that for quite some time now.

Let me get this straight. A team works hard all regular season in order to get home-ice advantage during the playoffs. Then, they get a significant part of their 'home-ice advantage' taken away because of the time zone they are in.

TV wags the dog when it comes to big events now, especially if they're going to pay the kind of money for rights that the leagues demand. And you're getting maximum exposure and ratings putting it in prime time in the east. You weren't quite so upset about going to a 4:30 game for Canada in Vancouver last year... Edmonton had the same issue when it went to the Finals in '06. The Giants had to deal with it in the World Series, having games start at 5 pm too.

There's no Saturday game on the 11th because of the UFC event in Vancouver. If you want something to keep coming back, you can't put it off, especially with the kind of revenue that it generates for Orca Bay, and the potential for future visits. I don't follow or care about UFC, but I'm guessing Dana White also told Orca Bay and the NHL to take a hike - he's not moving off a Saturday night date with the amount of PPV buys they likely get for a card.
