2014-15 UD Premier card without a serial # - does anyone know why?

Hello all,

I'm trying to figure something out from the 2014-15 UD Premier hockey set, but I am struggling to find a conclusive answer.

I collect Chelios cards, and there is a card listed on ebay right now that does not appear to have a serial # on the front. It is a 2014-15 UD Premier "2002-03 Tribute Autograph Patch Stars" card. In the set, there are cards serially numbered out of /25 with a gold version out of /5.

All the other cards on ebay appear to have some sort of serial # in the bottom right. Has anyone seen versions of these cards without a # on it? Any thoughts/insight?

There are a few reasons why it may be missing the numbering. First, it could've been held back as a replacement card, and got sent out as part of a replacement for something. Second, it could've been missed by the stamping machine somehow, and missed during QC. Third (I think least likely) scenario, it was somehow back-doored.

Those reasons make sense.

I was didn't know if UD had some sort of buyback or re-release program where some of these cards were issued again without #s.
