2016 NHL Playoffs, Round 3: Who Ya Got?

In my playoff pool I have the Pens and the Sharks - that will win me a decent chunk o change so hopefully that plays out.

Note - I am ridiculously impressed by what all of these teams have done this year. Each one has had significant obstacles to overcome and all are doing that - good on all of them.

As mentioned before - I don't remember a conference final season that had this many likable teams vying for the right to play in the Finals. Any way you slice it we should have a fun finish.

Define "likable"? Not the Hawks or Kings? Ha.

I enjoy seeing some fresh blood in the mix if my team is out. Teams like St. Loo and SJ have never won. Tampa is a fun story without Stamkos as well.

And a final mini-rant. As much as many dislike him and the fact he has won A Cup already, I love seeing Crosby lead a winner. The guy takes a lot of heat but he is one of the faces of the game and it's good for the growth of the NHL to have their marquee guy win, especially, what, 7 years apart?

The Sharks look, wow...........I am impressed, I'll leave it at that. :whatthehell:

I wonder if LA still thinks getting Lucic fro Jones was worth it. It's tough because you have Quick, one of the best in the world in net already but to have that tandem back there, would have been great. We knew Jones was incredible already he just needed a chance to be a #1. If Lucic stays long term and produces it's a win for LA as well but if Jones hoists a Cup in SJ that will crush LA fans.

Blues look just disinterested and unmotivated the last 2 games. Not just because they've been shut out, they just don;t have any jump.

In the East, the Lightning came in looking like they were going to another level but the Pens keep matching it and then some. Pittsburgh is all kinds of confident right now.

Sharks will win the cup this year. Simply because all four lines can score. Tierney wingels ward line can still put the puck in the net and often looks dangerous. Martin Jones with back to back shut outs, he's hitting his prime at exactly the right time. Pens will have a tough series if they meet in the finals for sure.

Jake Allen to start Game 4 for the Blues. It's not Elliott's fault his team can't score . . .

And we have ourselves a series again. Blues erupted yesterday. Seems every time they get pinned in a corner these playoffs they step it up a notch. Impressive and dominant win by St. Louis.

Now who is in nets for Game 5 for them? (and the Pens?)

Martin Jones is now the only starting goalie to have started all games in the Conference Finals. I don't think I can remember a time where 3 of the 4 starting goalies got swapped out this late in the playoffs. Granted TB wasn't a coaching decision but an injury, still interesting that 3/4 have changed.

I think Murray should have remained in net, but just my opinion.

Murray is getting the start in Game 6 per Mike Sullivan via ESPN.

I really hope this gives us our best chance to win. I didn't see an instance in which Murray would have outplayed Fleury in Game 5, but Murray is basically unflappable, and I'm not sure Fleury would give us the best chance to win either.

Go Pens!

Saw a graphic last night that the last time 2 goalies from 4 different teams appeared in the third round of the playoffs was 1980.

And I agree with the assessment I heard from Kelly Hrudey yesterday - there is such a small gap between the quality of the goaltenders in todays game, especially with those playing behind strong teams, it's not a big deal to switch between your number one and two guy.

And since I took Murray as my goalie in the hockey pool, I'm glad to see him back between the pipes!

Did anyone see the end of the Blues/Sharks game last night? What the heck was STL doing when they pulled Allen? Team had no urgency, was just sitting in their own end. Pietrangelo got completely outworked by Tierney I believe it was, and then 5 of the 6 guys on the ice followed the puck towards the top of the circle leaving the net wide open. I'm sorry but you have to play with a little more urgency when down 1 and the goalie pulled.

Only thing about STL is when backed into a corner this year they have found a way to dig themselves out. Lets see if that continues in SJ

It appears it was the right choice. An own goal, and one amazingly well-placed Brian Boyle shot were all he gave up.

The Lightning had a chance, but it wasn't much of one. Onto game 7, no goaltender controversy.

Game was horrible missed calls left and right both sides but a few real bad ones

Delay of game by Murray
Boarding to Tyler Johnson should have gave Tpa a 5 on 3

Lots of tripping and interference calls as well .

The off sides call on Drouins goal was so close it should have stayed a goal not enough to overturn IMO . Either way that rule needs to get re-evaluated

Tampa just got the momentum on that play only to have it stolen from them then they fell apart until the 3rd so it was Pitt that deserved it after 2 periods.

I was screaming at the tv! How do you sit back like that with the goalie pulled? I love my team, but too many times where they just didn't push hard enough in this series. Congrats to the Sharks, they earned it.
