Triple B
Verified Trader,
Of course you can't start the Expo off without the Thursday night dinner! It was good to sit down with folks before a weekend of madness!
Met up with my boy Crazy JZ (thanks again for allowing to have amazing food with an amazing friend, Jonathan!) for dinner Friday night and we wound up with a nice story involving Joe Montana. I'll tell you that one in a bit.
I didn't pick up a whole lot but I did sell and trade a ton. Good to see that dealers were getting their heads out of their rear and stocking baseball. There also seems to be an influx of new dealers who are also collectors, so making deals isn't always about making money for them. I had a few deals where dealers bought my cards just under eBay.
Had some cards graded:
The Bowman and Bowman Chrome cards as well as the two Bowman's Best cards are all Vladimir Guerrero, Jr.'s jersey number (ie. 27/50, 27/150, etc.).
Picked up a few PC items for my Barilko collection...
Thanks to Jeffrey for helping me acquire the Barilko/Horton dual!
I have been looking at this next one on Dr. Price's website for about a year. Decided to pull the trigger on it at Expo...the reason for buying is a hint for something else that's coming eventually...
Grabbed this one solely for the personality of the stick piece...it is also signed by Jim Thomson.
Picked up a few Lourdes Gurriel, Jr. autos...the Heritage is a "nameless" variation.
So Friday night, JZ and I went for dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Had a great time shooting the breeze and hanging out. As we're leaving, I spot my childhood buddy Mike at the bar. Beside him is his buddy Eddie and in between them is none other than Joe Montana! I ask JZ if he wants to meet Joe...we walk over and I tap my buddy Mike on the shoulder. Mike turns around and grabs my hand and we catch up for a second and then he turns and he introduces us to Joe and Eddie and we stood and talked with them for a bit.
The next day, unfortunately JZ couldn't be there, but I went to the back to meet my boy Mike and a quick chance to meet Joe Montana himself! Joe remembers me from the night before and walks over and was kind enough to take a pic with me.
He asks if I'll be at the National...I say yes and he says "see you there, maybe we can get together while you're there". Oh HELL yes.
