Verified Trader,
Another Expo has come and gone
My Expo Friday morning started with an impromptu tail gate party in the parking lot with some fellow CNC'ers. It was no surprise we were all there. But to have 4 cars, with 7 collectors in total, congregate together in the parking lot at 10:30AM -- with no pre-planning -- is a special memory. Perhaps Pre-Expo Tailgating will become an actual thing for future Expos.
I attended the inaugural UD Trade Night on Friday. There was a decent crowd (around 100) but it had the familiar awkwardness of an elementary school dance, complete with a DJ throwing down some background beats. It seemed like many people just stayed within their comfort zones and didn't walk around to approach other collectors. However, there were a few youngsters there, and they appeared to have a blast. They were giddy with excitement with their trades. For that reason alone, it was a valiant first attempt. And to be fair, there is no perfect formula for a great Trade Night. UD also handed out some swag: t-shirt, drawstring knapsack and a singles snap case.
Topps made their return to Expo after a long, long, absence. Their last appearance was early 2000s? No later than 2004? Topps was promoting their return to the hockey hobby with a sneak preview of their NHL stickers. They were handing out free sticker books & stickers, mouse pads and baseball caps.
Each day, Ultra Pro handed out free one touches and display stands to the first 50 guests. These are actually pretty cool and I may buy a few more to display cards.
As for actual card pick-ups, I was able to kill the majority of my 18-19 SPA set with some FWA and Franchise Icons pickups. My favourite pick-up of the weekend is this bad boy:
2010-11 The Cup Enshrinments Auto /50 Wayne Gretzky
Only 6 more months until the Spring Expo.... :foottap:
