2020 Leaf Lumber Kings Hockey question for everyone

Yep, that’s a good point. I think there’s too large a focus of multiplayer memorabilia cards. They can be epic, but when they’re overdone, they lose their intrigue (and value) quite a bit. Not that the hobby is all about value, but I often wonder why have soooo many multiplayer cards in products, as it actually lessens the value. For example, I’ve opened a good amount of Leaf ITG Used. I love the vintage memorabilia cards, but just looking at the values on the secondary market, if you took a quad vintage memorabilia card, for example, the value of that card is not what it would be if those four pieces were four separate cards of the individuals. From the manufacturer’s standpoint, I’d think this would also help spread out the memorabilia over a longer period of time, as you’d be producing 4x the product with the same amount of memorabilia. Just a couple of thoughts that have gone through my head in regard to Leaf products. You know I am a big supporter, Gregg!

Good points here, glad you brought it up. I've thought this myself.

LeafGreg,

Interesting point and my two cents. I have never pulled a name plate and have even seen one in person. One of my goals in collecting hockey was to pull a shield. Years spent trying to pull one and when I did it was great but it was stinking Corey Perry one if not my least favorite players.

So it was great to pull a shield but then yuck on the player.

If I pulled one of the names you listed I would feel the same way, excellent to pull it but well not exactly what would hope for!

Now this is a quality card from Leaf!

Believe me, I was pumped when I pulled that from a pack!

Good evening everyone. Working on 2020 Lumber Kings Hockey tonight and wanted some opinions as I plan on going deeper with the nameplate checklist. It will have all the big names that you have become accustomed to, but what about stick nameplate 1/1 cards of lets call them semi stars? Such as for example: Robert Reichel, Rick Meagher, Craig Janney, Valeri Kamensky, Mathieu Garon, Joe Murphy, Mike Rogers, Kirk Maltby, Paul Cyr, Dallas Smith, Terry Ruskowski...names like this and many more! thoughts appreciated!

I just wanted to go back to the original post, and answer this first.

I am a person who does not mind, and sometimes enjoy, pulling an auto or piece of memorabilia from someone I'm not familiar with immediately. I don't mind having to go to Wikipedia to learn about the person in front of me.

..... As long as there is something of note to be discovered.

I had the poor experience once of pulling a "Mystery Cuts" from UD. When the card came, it was a cut signature of a football player I'd never heard of. When I looked the player up. His ENTIRE Wiki page was "Played 3 years for Detroit Lions. Died in car crash in 19xx."

If the player is a "Deep Cut" from a championship team, and they actually did SOMETHING, that's fine. Won an award? Owns some interesting stat? OK.

If their claim-to-fame is that they were the 3rd line winger on a championship team, where they were on injured reserve and contributed 0 goal, 0 assists, 0 penalties, and didn't even dress -

- might not be all that excited.
