The tournament is easily overshadowed by the NHL Playoffs, but I really enjoy watching it every year.

I thought it would be nice to start a tournament thread for anyone who wants to comment on the IIHF World Championship games this year.

I'll be going for Team Canada of course, but in a crazy twist of fate, my cousin will be playing on the team this year.

Needless to say my family will be watching every game, hoping for a medal.

I’m looking forward to it, I love tournaments where majority of the rosters are not NHL players. They seem to play way harder and embrace the honor of playing for their country.

I'll be watching as well, there's always something exciting about watching people play for their country, and I agree with the previous comment around the non Star NHL'ers tend to play even harder.

I agree. Even on this Canada roster, the guys are stoked to play for Team Canada because most of them had never had the opportunity or thought they would never have the chance to play at the Men's level.

I know my cousin that is definitely the case.

Very few NHL players this year, thus hopefully some of the "blueberry" nations can make a run for it like Germany during the 2018 Olympics. Just to spice things up from the usual 6-7 nations that make the quarter finals every tournament.

This might become the wildest World Championship ever.

Sweden loses first two games against Denmark and Belarus
Canada loses first three games against Latvia, USA and Germany

I do believe Canada will still make the playoffs, but Sweden, not so sure.

I like these change ups. :) Good for hockey.

I don't see Canada qualifying for the quarter-finals. Their offense is extremely anemic, and that doesn't bode well even against the weaker teams they have coming up on their schedule.

Even with the unusual rosters, I never thought I would see a tourney where Canada has fewer goals than Italy and Great Britain. Crazy, but, fun stuff watching teams like Latvia and Kazakhstan having success.
