2022-23 Series 2 Checklist!

I'm happy that there will be an opportunity to get an Ethan Prow card but Woof.

Brandon Biro played 1! game with the Sabres last year and doesn't look like he will be playing any this year.

I don't follow the league that much, is there other examples on the Young Guns checklist for players who aren't on the team in 2022-23?

One of the mandates of deal with the NHLPA is that all rookies are to get a rookie card, whether you play 20 seconds or 20 years in the league. You might not like it, but it's still a hell of an accomplishment to make it to the show - and they should have something to show for it.

This deal must be really new because not everyone gets a card. At least UD isn't burying them in online only offerings like Compendium.

It's been fairly consistent that every NHL debut gets at least 1 NHL card since 2000. These are the only people missed since 2000:
Dalton Smith
Brennan Menel
Thomas Di Pauli
Anthony Greco
John Ramage
Lee Sweatt
Gregory Stewart
Adam Berti
Jeff Lank
Gordie Kinnear
David Van Drunen

So only 11 guys have been missed over a 20 year period (of around 3,000 debuts). Greco might have a chance at still getting one since he played for the Rangers in 2022 but his 2018/19 debut with the Panthers was missed.

As for the debate over the "fake" rc and it not being in his rookie year, we do have previous examples and this discussion has occurred before.

I was on the side that compendium is considered a RC, but I don't think the hobby/business sees it that way. Case and point, Pavel Francouz

He had a Compendium Card in 2018-19, then 2 years later we were hit with the Young Guns and other RC's. As far as I know, 20-21 is considered his RC year, and the 18=19 is a XRC or pre rookie card (similar to some of those parkhurst international cards from years ago), I think of Biron and Giguere.

As for "fake" young guns? It has happened before.

Alex Stalock - Actual RC's are in 10-11, but he has a 11-12 YG, and also has several others including a FWA.

JP Levasseur - No YG or FW, but also had RC's in 10-11, yet Upper Deck listed him as a rookie in every 11-12 set he was in

There have been non RC YG's well in the past. Just look at Luongo. RC 97-98, YG 99-00

And the last examples were in the 02-03 Set, in which several goalies were given YG's without them being true RC's

Nurminen
Konstantinov
Prusek
Centomo
Charpentier

And this is Just what I know from the Goalies!
