So by now everyone's heard about the David Ayres Emergency Backup Goalie situation, but for those who haven't:

As a goalie myself, I could only imagine what was going through Ayres' head throughout this entire experience, and I'm so happy he got his first NHL win.

On the other end of things, this has to be the most embarassing game the Toronto Maple Leafs have ever skated in. As a lifelong Maple Leafs fan I was just in complete shock watching this game due to the goalie situation and my teams inability take the lead against a 42-year-old goaltender standing at the other end of the ice. Just a complete lack of effort when up against your own AHL Marlies zamboni driver. Unreal.

Hats off to David Ayres and the Hurricanes for grinding out a historic win in Toronto tonight. You guys deserved it.

I am not sure where the Leafs go from here. We don't deserve a spot in the playoffs, that's for sure.

Brian Burke not too happy which I found surprising from him.
Where's Cherry lol
History was made tonight as the first every EBUG to win an NHL game.. 42 or not he played good

Yeah what a hero. The walk out from that dressing room and on his way to the net must been nerve wracking.
Embarrassing to watch Leafs in the 3rd and it pains me to even look at Tavares. Outworked every single shift.

It was a good night to be a Hurricanes fan; however, the Canes are still in the playoff race but now with both goalies out. This was a tough game.

I heard Burke had some words on this but I haven't heard them yet. Will be entertaining to see what he said haha.

It wasn't to harsh, just pointing out that in the Greater Toronto area there are at least 50 goalies that would be a better choice to be an emergency goalie. He said it was a fun story but the league needs to better dictate who can be an emergency goalie.

My best,

Ken

Thanks, Ken!

And I agree with him on that.

I wouldn't mind being their Emergency Backup Goalie...

So the Hurricanes are going to host Mr. Ayres at their next home game. Classy move by their organization. I'm sure the Canes fans will love it!

They are also selling T-Shirts that Ayres will make royalties off of:

They also said they are working to identify some sort of kidney foundation to donate the other proceeds to as he had a kidney transplant in like 2004 I think they said.

This was an awesome story to see Saturday night.
