Not often I have a card I'm unsure about in terms of scarcity and/or value, but came across one tonight. I recently brought back a ton of boxes of old cards from my folks' house and while sorting through a couple tonight, found this card. Any info about scarcity or value would be appreciated!

Martin Brodeur 1996-97 Score Golden Blades SAMPLE #10

To elaborate, the back of the card has "Golden Blades" written behind the writeup on the back and "SAMPLE" is written under the writeup. Don't have scans handy, but can get them if needed.

Is this the back of the card.

The example they have doesn't show "SAMPLE" on the back but I found this basic set info on Beckett :

https://www.beckett.com/hockey/1996-97/score-golden-blades

Here's the blurb they have about it :

"This 275-card set was a parallel to the basic issue. The cards were inserted at rates of 1:7 hobby and retail packs, and 1:3 magazine packs. The cards were printed on linen stock and featured the Golden Blades logo superimposed over the stat package on the card backs. Each Golden Blades card has a rectangular box within the player's picture on the back which to the naked eye, resembles television snow. But placing a special Pinnacle device over the rectangle revealed (for one out of every eight Golden Blades) the words "Special Artist's Proof". These cards were eligible to be redeemed for two more parallel cards: a Special Artist's Proof for the collector and a Dealer's Choice Artist Proof for the redeeming hobby store owner. These SAP winner cards were inserted at approximately the same rate as standard Artist Proof cards, but because of the limited redemption period, are in somewhat shorter supply. This checklist represents the Score Golden Blades cards that have Sorry Try Again in the decoder window and were not redeemable for Special Artist Proofs. "

I also found a few links to FeeBay listings with some "SAMPLE" cards, for a few dollars each..

I love seeing cards like this, they had a special role to play in the hockey card business back then. Tim (TurcoCollector3) is a great source of information about these.

Yep, that’s the back!

Sample or promo type cards is something that I have collected for about 25 years.
I honestly believe that they are over looked as a collectible. But unfortunately it seems
that I am the only person that feels that way. In most cases they carry very little value.
Now I can assure you that there are examples of these promo/sample type cards bringing
in larges amounts of money. But like anything the rarity of the issue is what will dictate the price.
I may be 100% wrong on this but I would think that the card is about a $5.00 card and maybe
to a Brodeur collector it may fetch double that. But not a lot of real value. Do not plan your
next new car purchase on the sale of this card.

1996-97 Score Samples #10GB Martin Brodeur / Golden Blades $1.25

Haha, that's basically what I figured. Thanks for the help!

For a die hard player collector like me these type of cards are the most interesting. There can be found three different versions to the Samples as well: ”Special Artist Proof” Winner, ”Special Artist Proof” Winner Punched (or redeemed) and ”Sorry Try Again”:

You can tell the difference between Sample Winner and Sample Sorry Try Again by checking the horizontal lines lenght on the left and right edge in the decoder box. Or by using the original Pinnacle Lens :)

I have the redeemed Brodeur! It is specifically why he is one of my PC players. The coolest part is they sent back the golden blades card with the Pinnacle logo cut into the card. I believe I also have a Shane Doan rookie golden blades with the sample written on it.
