97-year-old New Jersey man leaves behind treasure trove of signed baseball cards

That is an awesome story- amazing how one man had such an amazing collection and his family probably had no idea or thought it was for kids.

Now they are sitting on a fortune.

Great story!

Love the quote at the end...”you’ll figure it out when I’m gone”. So he knew what he had yet didn’t try to capitalize on it for himself. Just loved collecting.

Absolutely incredible.

I am the youngest male in the my family. My uncle apparently had amassed a huge collection of old baseball cards starting from when he was a kid. I didn't even know he liked baseball. Apparently he had them in the attic of the home he grew up in. As my grandparents owned over 100 acres of lakeside property in Muskoka and many houses they sold the one house and it was demolished. He never got that collection back and was quite upset. I can only imagine what he had. I still think about it to this day, some 20+ years after hearing about it.

Awesome to see this story.

I remember reading about this a little while ago, crazy stuff.

Hockey actually has somewhat of an equivalent. There was this old guy from Newfoundland who passed away a few years ago, Robert Hamylyn, and his NHL autograph collection was the stuff of legends. He had a ton of 1910-30s NHL autographs on beautiful pictures. His family has been slowly auctioning it off over the past couple of years.

What a beautiful collection that man put together!! Seems like the family is making a small fortune off it now which is nice.

Here are some of the auctions from the collection that end in a few days:

The crazy thing to me is the auction house being used. Basically a local operation. They are going to leave money on the table. If I read the article correctly the first signed Ruth isn’t even going to auction online ffs.
