Now, I don't often post my maildays, because frankly they're usually not very limited, or colorful, and it's usually all just PC so there's nothing available. Well, I just had to post this one:

Yes - that folks is a 97-98 Black Diamond Premium Cut Quad HORIZONTAL - odds of 1 in 2000 packs - not sure of the print run, but it's one of the first inserts that didn't book for the longest time due to "scarcity". I'm not sure what it books for now since it doesn't list in the Quarterly Beckett - and there's no way it can be a "common".

Why is it a steal you ask ... well, decided to place a Beckett Marketplace order to help fill out my LeClair collection and happened to see this one on sale by our friends at Burbank Sportscards for $3.40 - that's right their standard 20% off of the book value of a $4.00 common - except this ain't no common. Frankly, when I placed the order I was prepared to end up with the Vertical Premium Cut, but I got what they advertised ... and at a SPECTACULAR price. I guess it proves that it's not "always" good to be big - cause you don't always know what you've got!

Also, got another of the elusive Lemieux inserts that I still need (above), as well as a few other "non-steal" LeClair's from Burbank.

On another note, made the final payment on my 05-06 Upper Deck Series I CASE today so maybe I'll have something else worthwhile to post about in a week or two. ;)

Thanks for the look!

Hey Dave - that's a heck of a find. Indeed the LeClair books at $4.00 but this must be a major oversight on Beckett's part.

For the un-initiated... the Quad Horizontal set was tiered, with 5 different insertion rates. This is straight from the Beckett book:

1:30 - 8, 10, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 27, 29, 30
1:90 - 4, 5, 7, 12, 14, 15, 21, 22, 25, 26
1:2000 - 6, 9, 11, 20, 24, 28
1:15,000 - 3, 13
1:30,000 - 1, 2

The LeClair is number 6 - inserted 1:2000 packs as Dave noted, and yet is priced the same as the most common cards in the set!

That's a killer steal, the kind of purchase I can sure appreciate. Way to go!

Nice pickup for the PC. It's funny, sometimes Beckett books the older inserts way too high, and sometimes way too low. But a 1:2,000 Pack insert for $4. Wassup with that. I wonder why the Bure and Forsberg both book for $150 and are both 1:2,000 packs also. I think it might just be an oversight. Mike

It's amazing how cheap those are on ebay too... there's a whole bunch of them listed really low... then I just noticed they are all either the ones that are 1:30 packs or 1:90 packs

Dave - that steal is right up there with the 04/05 SPA Penguins redemption you got from me for...umm...$22, wasn't it?? ;)

Thats definitely an oversight!

Or laziness on Becketts part. 1 of the 2.

Either way, thats a great steal! At least a $60-80 card! Congrats!
