Before I begin my show and tell I’d like to point out that this site has been a great distraction. As such donations to the best of my understanding go a long way in maintaining this site, so please shoot a donation to keep this great site running.....and on with the show!!

Back in 2005 a local Kid from my Hometown by the name of Mike Richards emerged as one of the NHL’s elite. Me being new to the hobby began picking up his cards here and there when I could, as they were early on fetching quite the premium. Around 2011 or so I ended up selling my very impressive collection (which I still cry about to this day, some of the cards I truly regret selling) to another richards super collector in Montreal our very own Flyersrule18.

In the past few years my interest peaked again and I began picking up some very nice cards at a now discounted prices.

In recent months I also began to take an interest in the vintage market where I found a nice little niche to get my feet wet while the market prices continued to explode. Without further ado here is my “key pickups”

Some of my Jets YG’s purchased before prices exploded!

As I have recently posted in the past few months, I decided to try to put together the Blast From The Past 98’ Chrome set. I really love the throwback cards with the Chrome effects....little did I realize the prices some of these were fetching (Gretz and Roy). I made the mistake of diving in before coming to this realization (the market also shifted once I started). These are the start of this set build...they are very nice in person with their luster!

Why have 1 when you can begin your Quincy journey with 2!

And now onto my Top 10.....and my title will be self evident after the rollout.....

#10.

These are hard to find and I scooped them up once they each hit ebay after his cup wins...they rarely appear anymore. Glad I’ve got them.

Probably the nicest designed rookie cards IMO...I upgraded To a 3 colour patch. My one big regret was selling my platinum RC as it’s one of my fav’s, if you know anyone who has it please shoot me a line....

I picked this one up before the market went nuts...I think this kid is going to be a stud...

An iconic design and 1/1 to boot of his rookie...the price was a steal, this thing went through about 2 Ebay iterations before I lowballed and got it..

I didn’t at the time realize how hard these were to find When these first came out, one recently popped up and I couldn’t hit the BIN fast enough...very meaty card and cool design.

As I alluded to above, I’m embarking on putting the Blast From The Past Set together. Early on realizing that there are 2 brutally expensive cards to the set  I ended up getting one of them for a very fair price. Glad to knock this beast off the list. It’s a very nice card. Love the vintage designs, and the Chrome!

A few months back I rolled the dice seeing that the market was really ramping up. Bought them to flip down the road...it looks as if I’ve doubled my money on them already....

Same thing, it felt like a lot of money when I drove across the city to shell out over $1000 for 3 boxes....I’ve easily doubled, nearly Tripled my money on these if I was to sell today...not sure how long I’ll hang onto these before selling, perhaps if the righ5 offer rolls in on HI I’ll unload.

I figured I was going to be doomed with finishing the BFTP set due to a certain great one.....the prices for these were selling for over $1000CDN (way out of my range). Then one popped up with a description error on Ebay with a best offer option. I threw up a long shot reasonable offer and amazingly enough it was accepted... a gorgeous, iconic card in person, one of my favourites for sure.

And what could beat a Gretzky? You say?

Well I’ve been hunting for certain Richards cards since 2005, there are iconic cards that collectors form cornerstones of collections with...this was one of them for me.....the other being his cup black rainbow 1/1 which I have never seen surface...

Anyway, fast forward to last week, I normally check ebay and H.I for any cards daily, I got busy with work and logged in that evening, only to see a sale thread with one of my whales!!!!! Alas, it was listed as pending to another buyer!!!!!!:owned::badmood::mad: I was near tears... I couldn’t believe it....I threw out a Hail Mary and pleaded with the Seller That I’d been looking for this card for nearly 15 years....I didn’t figure I’d hear back....the next day I had a pm saying that the other Buyer was willing to let me purchase the card.....:taz: I couldn’t believe my good fortune and the Seller making this happen, so thank you to the other Buyer ( I hope you come forward if you read this) and a massive thank you to Islesforlife.....That’s what makes this site so cool is situations like this.

Anyway...sorry for the long winded explanation But here it is finally in possession after a 15 year search......

Thanks for the read if you made it this far. And thanks to all who contribute to this site, you’ve made it a welcome distraction.

Congrats on the Ice Premieres! Such a great card. Awesome additions overall!

That Blast From The Past set is really cool, not sure if I had seen that before. Nice to see you've landed a couple of the whales.

Great pickups! I also never knew those BFTP cards demanded such money!

I'm also looking for a few of those Richards cards you posted. Maybe one day when prices come back down to earth I'll start searching again LOL.

Great stories man. Your dedication to your guy Richard after all these years is impressive. What a way to kick start this collection again with a white whale. Loved the 05-06 Ice Premieres!
