Hey all,
I think I'd like to get back into comics again and I'm looking to obtain some X-Men comics (1990-present). What's the best/cheapest way to get these? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Ryan

I would say buy a big lot from ebay, certainly the cheapest way and probably the easiest way to get a complete run. I have a post up with a huge modern lot FS, check it out and see if you are interested in that. Its a great lot (especially for getting back in) at around 25% of the cover price.

I took a look on the bay and found the House of M mini-series potentially for $10. I don't want to go overboard and start buying mass amounts, so this seems like a nice, cheap way to get back into things.

The house of M is a good read.....it opens the door to the big Marvel event from last year. The first 30-40 issues of Ultimate X-men are good reading and usually available fairly cheap.

Any other X-men series I should take a look at? I've basically been out of the loop since "Fatal Attractions".

Astonishing x-men is a new series that fans seem to really love. Not sure how far in its is, maybe 20-30 issues. You would have no trouble getting those issues cheap.

I have some sort of a Wolverine comic if you'd like it- they gave it to me with a couple packs of cards I bought at my local hobby store. I don't have a use for it but if you do PM me- I'd be happy to give it to you :)

Astonishing X-Men is amazing, easily the best X stories I've read in years. It's at around #30 right now and you can get the trade paperbacks.

Joss Whedon did issue 1-24. He created Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Start with Astonishing, get all ~30 issues and go from there.

I'll second Astonishing. Even if you decide to forgo the trades, I'm sure that--minus the variants--you can pick up at least 1-26 or so for $1 an issue or less.

Other opinions:

1) I'd also suggest Ultimate X-Men, though the series is supposedly coming to an end (has this been officially announced, anyone?). I think it's at issue 99 with a natural stopping point coming up. I didn't start getting it until maybe issue 89, so I got lucky with my lcs with a big sale and picked up the first 5 or 6 hard covers so I didn't have to deal with getting the full back-fill and the space that goes with it.

2) I haven't really been enjoying Uncanny X-Men or X-Men Legacy much. Buy a couple of small runs to test it.

3) And try and pick up the Messiah Complex crossover. I enjoyed it.

4) Stay away from X-Men 2099.

5) Then branch out--I really enjoyed X-Factor lately up until I dropped all by subs.

6) Try and get the Old Man Logan arc in Wolverine--obviously it's not specifically an X-Men title, but it's great!

I'll definitely be trying to grab the Astonishing's series. I browsed the bay to see what was out there and there's a lot with 2-21 for like $11 right now. The cover art looks amazing; enough to get me to want to read through them.

I'll show off some pickups hopefully soon. Thanks for the advice, guys (and gals).

Update: Just got Astonishing X-Men #2-18, 20 & 21 as well as the Uncanny's with Colossus' death and Bishop's first appearance all for $15. This makes me a happy Panda :D
