One of my all-time favourite cards is the 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee (and Topps) Phil Roberto. Why? Because it is one of the few regular issue hockey cards to feature a fight and it's got an amazing photo.

For those of you who don't know it, here is a link:

In doing some research for my next book, I found a boxscore for the March 10, 1973 game between the Blues and Islanders. At 4:34 of the first period, both players received major penalties and as a result, I was able to determine the moment Lewis Portnoy (if you are familiar with vintage hockey photographers, you can instantly identify his work) took the photo. How cool is that?

I know a lot of baseball bloggers have done this with baseball cards, but it's not too often you see a hockey match without it being a significant moment like a Stanley Cup win.

By the way, the Blues won that night by a score of 5-4. Roberto scored two goals in the second period.

Other cards that I know of that picture fights are:

- 1990-91 UD Neil Wilkinson (on the back)
- 1994-95 Classic Enforcers insert set

They're few and far between, really. You'll likely never see them on NHL licensed cards and even the AHL won't touch them. The Enforcers set in 2009-10 Heroes and Prospects was previewed but the cards themselves never showed fights (despite an awesome-looking Matt Clackson preview card that was seen on their website).

Isn't Marc Crawford RC photo also a post fight one? If I remember well, he is bleeding (and so thin!).

Also, Between the Pipes had a subset recently about goalie fights. These were drawings, thouth, I my memory is right.
