Tonight my wife and I took in Div 1 NCAA hockey at the MTS Centre - UND vs. Clarkson - in what was billed as the U.S. College Hockey Classic.

The game was pretty well attended, I'd say in the 5,500-6,000 range, tons of UND jerseys in the crowd telling you that there were several fans who made the trip with the club from Grand Forks.

During intermission my wife and I hunted for a souvenir from the game. Afterall, with the branding that had been done, there should be pucks, sticks and/or t's available, right?

Wrong.

Not a single souvenir was available, save for the $2 program. You couldn't even pick up UND Fighting Sioux merch on the floors!

I'm pretty miffed since I like to pick up pucks from most events I go to (Believe in the Goal, Oldtimers Hockey, World Juniors etc.). I'm surprised that the NCAA and TNSE would've let the game go without selling anything.

Anyone else go to games where they expect memorabilia on sale and not see it?

Sort of, I recently went to a few World Junior Games at the Dome, looking to pick up a small souvenir like a puck, Lanyard etc.. Nothing but Jerseys, Hats and T-Shirts at every location. I was reall hoping to get something, but I guess not.

That's weird. You're right...the NCAA doesn't seem to have a problem licensing the logos out for merchandising. I know they take exception to the protection of player rights and names and stuff (and that's why college players don't appear in video games and such) but it seems like a missed opportunity not to have a commemorative game puck or at least a koozie or foam dome or something crazy like that.

+1 agree with that... I will email someone at Clarkson to see if they reply

They did have the pucks at one of the locations!

I got an answer back from the AD at Clarkson here is his answer...

Thank you very much for passing along this email. The writer is on the mark outside vendors traditionally have very little memorabilia for sale at neutral sites. We have opened up a Knight Armor store in Cheel that is doing very well selling Golden Knight souvenirs and clothing. Hope to see you at a game down the road.
