I put together the 09/10 Ultimate Signatures set in the 09/10 season (including the 10 unreleased cards at the time) and had planned on making a custom frame for the set...but as all things time and other matters got the better of me over the years.
The Gretzky proved to be the hardest to find and I definitely overpaid for it but I have zero regrets about that!
Finally, this summer I have finally been able to take an extended vacation and completed the project.
Materials (mostly sourced from Michaels using their hefty daily coupons):
1) Shadowbox Frame (meant to be for framing Jerseys, I re-purposed it for the frame job)
2) Hot knife set (a lifesaver for cutting the foam board with smooth edges and also for creating recessed corner groves to mimic the kind of corner protection that one-touch holders allow for)
3) Digital Caliper (for precise measurements from Amazon)
4) Tempered glass cutting plate
5) Black foam boards (Dollar store) (a few extra boards for practice attempts)
6) Back bristol board (Dollar store) (used to create a surface overlying the foam board with slightly smaller cutouts than the cards to prevent the cards from falling forward)
7) Metal rulers (Walmart and Home Depot for the angled ruler that had a convenient recess at the 90 degree bend that served to be the perfect tool for creating recessed corners)
8) Regular Xacto knife (Dollar Store)
9) 0.7 Mechanical Pencil (Walmart)
10) Plastic proof card (using a plastic cut out from a file protector from Walmart) that I used to overlay on the foam board that would allow for a snug fit

Took a while to create but well worth the effort!
I have plans on making a "2009 - 2010" and "Ultimate Signatures" plaque to put in the empty spaces on the bottom. That will be a project for another day.
Comments Appreciated!
