Thoughts on Canada Post Strike

Amazon will never deliver lettermail which is what most people use to ship cards. If you were using a tracked service, Amazon won't be cheaper than what Canada Post provides for 95% of examples

Maybe the new Canada Post should sell a "Prime" type membership where $119 per year gets you virtually unlimited shipping as a buyer. :P

If 99.9% of our population lived within 100KM north-south of the USA border, the resulting band of densification sure could help achieve economies of scale. We've got too few people for such a large land mass. :P

It is simply incredible to me that 13.4 million people inhabit Southern Ontario itself, while "just" 11.7 million inhabit all of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

It's the winters. What's really gonna bake your noodle is when you check out the Territorial populations and their distributions.

Canada Post reviewing the details of the Minister of Labour’s announcement

Canada Post is currently reviewing the details of the Minister of Labour’s announcement this morning to ensure we are prepared to fully participate in the process and comply with the Minister’s directive.

While that unfolds, we look forward to welcoming our employees back to work and serving Canadians and customers. We will take all appropriate steps to support that process as quickly as possible given the direction provided to us by the Minister.

Commitment to reaching agreements

Our commitment has always been to reach negotiated agreements with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) that would help us better serve the changing needs of Canadians and provide good jobs to those who provide the service. We remain committed to doing so within this new process while also meeting the postal needs of Canadians.

Details on our start-up plans will be made available at canadapost.ca when finalized.

My local PO is a franchise inside the Co-op. On this news, they are hiring a security guard to enforce the respectful workplace policy and eject violators as they expect that their employees are gonna catch ALL the strays.

All signs point to tomorrow it should resume. Hopefully that’s the case. Know it’s going to take along time to get back to normal shipping times but something is better than nothing.

It was mentioned this morning on the radio that they won't be accepting any new mail until Thursday at least to give themselves a headstart on catching up on the backlog.

I was still able to drop off at the outlet, but they did tell me it would not be picked up from there until Thursday.

Yes they will not be accepting new items for 48 hours. I imagine I could drop them off somewhere (Main PO or 2 outlet) but I'm not even gonna try until Thursday. I have about 40 packages now, mostly just single card envelopes.

Same. Dropped off 11 packages today at my local post office no problem. Postmaster stated they are accepting packages but nothing is moving from there until Thursday.

I had mail yesterday... it was just junk mail... dated a month ago... how lovely that it will all be delivered while important things remain in the queue. lol

The potential date from Strike 2.0 is May 22nd, but no earlier, according to Canada Post.

Plan your eBay purchases accordingly.
