a question about a card.

hey everyone on my way back from toronto i stoped in a card shop that was the closest to me and noticed that the owner had a 04-05 ultimate collection signature card of gordie howe for sale with a bv of 80. when i asked him what he wanted for it he said that i couldnt afford to buy it from him, this made me laugh at him and he went nuts because of it. he them went on to tell me that the card was worth way more than 80. i know some collectors will pay a little more for a certain card they want because of the low numbering or the colour of the jersey/patch. i have baught many cards/boxs from the owner of the shop and taught he was a pretty good guy to deal with but after this i dont think i will ever buy another card from him again. so here is my question.

would you pay much more a card eventhow its not numered or the swatch on it is only one colour.

id tell him to pound sand and go somewhere else.....one day you will find a shop you can call your own....it took several shops before i found one i didnt feel i was getting screwed by and now my bum feels much better and im enjoying the hobby more....my .03....Fred

The fact that it's not numbered or anything, I would not pay more. The guy might have some sentimental value over it or something, but either way doesn't sound like a guy who should be running a business.

He can ask whatever he wants for his cards, but with an attitude like that he will be sitting on his stock for a while and won't be going much longer especially with the economy the way it is.

Some sellers are like that. It might be a situation where the seller actually likes having the card around, or maybe he overpaid for it himself, which is why he has it tagged so high. It would also be interesting to find out how long it's been sitting there too.

I have no problem with anyone asking as much as they want for their cards. The way I see it, it is their right since they own the cards.

If I was told I couldnt afford a card, however, I would leave the shop never to return. That is just insulting.

That seems like a weird reaction from the shop owner. Considering that you've purchased cards/boxes from him before, why would he say that you couldn't afford the card? That sounds odd because it's not as if the card was one of the rarer autographed Gordie Howe cards anyway.

Sometimes even though a card is not numbered or have a unique patch it still requires a premium do to its rarity...I don't know about this particular Howe card but I do know from my first hand experience I've bought cards that booked 80 for 120 because I've never scene them for sale before....I bought my Mike Modano 05-06 Glacial Graphs for 40 over BV because It was the only one I've ever scene after searching for 3 years and its not numbered or unique in anyway....But the owner had no right to talk to you or treat you the way he did....He sounds like a tool and I'd stop giving him business.

actualy the shop is here in nfld, the owner told me that he buster a couple box's himself and he lost his shirt on it. i have seen the cards before on the bay but i cant remember what they went for. he then went on to tell me that the number of customers her had bosting box's have droped way down compared to last year. i wonder why.

Got to love the seller who becomes bitter and rude to customers rather than adapt to the changing tide of the hobby. Should have offered him $200 and then walked away. Your money is not good enough for his cards.
