first off, I appreciate anyone's advice in this matter.

short and sweet....i sold a very high end item on ebay to a canadian buyer but they have an unconfirmed address on file with paypal. I am sending via registered mail but my question is.....could I get bit by the buyer? fyi....the buyer has a relatively low feedback count (40) or so.

thx again for your feedback.

cheers,
darin

dont send to an unconfirmed address period. ask the buyer if he could get his address verified, it is quite quick to do usually

if he doesnt want to do that, ask him to pay by money order

Can canadian ebay users even get verified? I phoned paypal 3 or so years ago and they told me I was fine because I have a credit card on file. Apparently I am still unverified.

I'm in Canada and I'm verified thru my Bank Acct took about 2 minutes. What you could do is ask for a signature confirming package is arrived it cost a couple of extra dollars

I'm verified, too. Just took a few minutes, if I recall correctly.

A note of caution: If you didn't state in your shipping terms that you will only accept Paypal payments if shipping to a confirmed Paypal address, you might want to bite the bullet and ship to the unconfirmed address. I've found some new buyers are very quick to leave negative feedback in cases like this.

I guess I will need to make some phone calls tomorrow! I guess the women I spoke with was a little slow haha.

Darin,

If you send to ANY unconfirmed address there is a possibility that you can get bit by the buyer. It doesn't matter if you have a signature or not, if the address is unconfirmed you run the risk. Where in Canada are you sending the item? Also, someone said bite the bullet and send, but think about what you value more... your money or your feedback? You said VERY HIGH END - I would assume you value your money more in this case!

Isn't registered mail insured though? If it is, I wouldn't worry. If the guy has the balls to lie and say he never got it, tell him you'll file an insurance claim and that if he's lying it's a criminal offense.

Yea, it is a very high end card about $2k. The card was purchased by a buyer in Quebec. And yes, I am shipping via registered mail, which includes insurance, tracking and signature upon delivery.

I'm not sure how it's in Canada, but due to the fact that I live in Sweden it's impossible for me to get my Paypal address verified. This sucks big time IMO, since I've had to let many eBay auctions go because of sellers who fear the risk. I don't blame the sellers, I blame Paypal :P

I'm in Canada, have a confirmed address and verified on ebay. Was pretty quick and easy to do.

As am I.

Get them to update their info with PAYPAL and all should go well. Especially seeing as you've committed to sending Registered, insured and with signature..

Keep us updated on how this pans out.

I am in Canada, and I am verified. I'd be lying if I told you I knew how that happened. I didn't do it on purpose, but apparently something I have done made me verified (credit card? bank account?)???

I am verfied....well I must be because I've won some auctions that say they will ship to verified users only, and they ship to me...

Paypal makes 2 deposits for a couple of cents in your bank account. You then enter the 2 amounts. That's your verification

At least it was for me...

Im in sweden to and verified.
Link your creditcard to the paypal account and you get verified.

Buyer is claiming his address is 'confirmed', yet when I pull up my paypal receipt from the transaction, the address still shows 'unconfirmed'. Hmmm. Do you know if the receipt (on the paypal web site) will automatically update?

being varified means that you credit card address information matches your Paypal address information AND your eBay address information. as long as it's all the same (including spacing) it's very simple to get verified/confirmed.

for me i had a problem because my visa address included a "NW" at the end of the address, but I don't normally include that when I give people my address. so all i had to do was update the addresses.

Update: Buyer insisted that he had a confirmed address (even though my receipt said unconfirmed), so paypal told me to refund the buyer. This way he could send funds again and this way the transaction would be seller protected for myself (if indeed he had a confirmed address). Granted I know this is a pain for the buyer but I really didn't think it was that big of a deal (as it had happened to me several years ago before I knew I could confirm my address).

Fast forward to tonight. He feels that since I refunded him, I don't want to complete the transaction and unfulfilled my part of the deal.....which he feels is a way out of the deal on his end. Whatever!

Of course he threatens me with a neg if I don't agree with him to end the transaction and walk away as if it never happened. Since I have too much pride and his threat ticks me off, I told him I could care less about the neg and will be filing a non paying buyer form against him.

I mean, technically I never asked that the buyer have a confirmed address but as Rod said earlier...i value my money too much to take a stupid risk. Plus since the buyer foolishly threatened me with a neg, I feel I owe him a non paying buyer form (since he said he won't be sending payment again). A little vindictive yes, but this guy was very unsympathetic towards my situation and uncooperative during the entire situation....which wasn't even a full four days after the auction ended! Thx for the listen...or read and I appreciate any feedback (positive or negative) that you may have.

Cheers,
Darin
