AHL Skills Competition

Well, since we have no NHL skills competition, would have happened Saturday evening just passed (read last night) we have the AHL to enjoy.

Lot of NHL rooks taking part, guys whos cards everyone was wetting themselves over last year.

So...who's watching? :)

The downside is we have to listen to Peter Loubardias, I can't stand him.

Dang, wish I could watch! :( :mad: Stajan isn't in it though, right? I belive Kyle Wellwood is representing the St. John's Maple Leafs.

I really like watching skills competitions, I've gotta say, I usually am more interested in it than the actual All Stars game.

so,
Plekanec nets a goal for the planet usa, and if anyone wants to tally the averages, that team will get a goal too.
they didn't say it on this below college level quality broadcast.

Guess Canada got the best average, therefore they get a goal and it remains tied, 2-2.

not hard to screw it up with the way this is being broadcast.

actually, he got it from the CCM rep, sounds like they got a new customer.

Andy Hilbert goes 4-4 on the accuracy drill,
first player to do it in AHL all-star history.
and he wins.

I'm not bothering posting a score, bc I don't know, it SHOULD be 5-3?
 
3-0 drill every goal counts towards the final score.

first canadian group scores 2 goals.
first planet usa group:
TONY SALMALAINEN! scores, and so did one of the other guys, so 2 goals, 7-5

second canuck trio scores none, against nittymaki

second us group scores 1
8-5

third canuck group, nice goal by spezza, only one to go in, 8-6

third planet usa group - big save by garon, flat out splits, another nice save by garon. and a goal in the middle there, so.
so 9-6

apparently it's 10-6.

I don't get this scoring system.
or I really **** at math.

ho man mike cammelleri just made a disgusting move to score. pure hot dog, but man what a beauty.

Canada's going to lose, but, that was pretty.

haha, dustin brown just got poke checked by teammate Garon,
they were talkin trash before hand so that's funny.

Final score is.......17-13.
 
The Camallerri goal was sick. I can't see him ever attempting a goal like that in a game or even in a shootout. Coach would probably kill him.

I'm surprised that Salmelainen didn't win the fastest skater comp. All that I've heard about him is that he can flat out fly.
 
i too was surprised he didn't do better,
ferraro said he put his hand down takinga turn so probably had a speed bobble.
He can fly though
 
Actually, Salmelainen put his hand down the way a speed skater would. Thing is, his feet kept moving and he LOOKED very fast, but he didn't take one full out, powerful stride the whole way around the rink.

I'm surprised no one commented on Wellwoods attempt during the breakaway challenge, since the same attempt almost got him killed earlier this year for showboating (he did the stick between the legs thing again).

Camalleri's goal looked pretty, but he got lucky on it twice - once when he avoided the poke check accidentally (he wasn't looking up so he never saw it coming) and the second time when the puck just rolled over the goalies stick.

Still, it was an entertaining show. Manchester had a ton of guys representing which is coll for the hometown fans.

I'm glad Miller was named the top goalie...for the second year in a row :p
Vanek would have been there, but he's with Team Austria trying to qualify for the 2006 Olympics. I think it's ridiculous that only 2 players from the league's top team (Rochester) made it to the All-Star Game.

yeah, the wellwood attempt was funny.
and camm....got lucky, but, to pull stuff off like that ya have to get a bit lucky :)
I was surprised at the number of monarch's.
there was what? 3-4 of em?

good for the fans I spose.

though they didn't look all that enthused for the most part.

the show was so sloppily put on, I can't really blame them.
ah well,
