Hey,
I was hearing that ovechkin will not have any autos in this upcoming 2008-09 The Cup.... If it ever comes out.
Is it just for this product, or is he not signing with UD?
I havent checked on his autos this year, has he been signing UD Cards this year?

Was just curious.

Thanks
Mike

I believe JTR is right...no Ovechkin UD cards anymore!
I wonder if he decided it wasn't worth his time to do auto's for UD anymore, or if his mom is trying to get him a better money deal with ITG! .... Probably both!

Either way, pretty selfish of Ovy if you ask me. He is starting to remind me alot of Jagr when he was in his elite days.
Ovy's skills make him the best at what he does, but its the fans that have brought out the best in him in the past and made him the star he is today.

Dial the drama back a little.

No Ovechkin autos right now. There may be in future, but in the short term there's no deal in place. This is hardly a catastrophe. Deals with Messier and Orr have been managed after absences from UD products. No reason to think that there won't be a deal that sees Ovechkin back in UD products sometime down the road.

Does this consider Ovy's auto's only or all his UD-cards?

Little confused here altought I don't collect him

Ovy has stopped doing auto's for UD at the moment. He will still have base, jersey and inserts. The auto contract is done between UD and the player. The pictures and jersey contract will be between UD and the NHL (NHLPA), or at least that is how I understand it.

That could be it, but it could also be that there is no effort required of the player to appear in non-autograph sets. It's one thing to say "go ahead and put me in the set", another to sit down to sign thousands of cards and stickers when you're probably pretty busy as it is.

His signature, his prerogative.

This is a recent development, about a month old. Black Diamond was released before Christmas 08.

Game used, inserts, and just cards in general are covered by the GLA with the NHLPA if I understand correctly. Autographs are also covered for the BAP product - those are purchased from the NHLPA at a certain rate, and the NHLPA encourages participation as it's their pet brand. An individual player's autograph requires a separate, negotiated deal between the manufacturer and the player.
