Just fyi...as of a couple weeks ago, USPS's international rates went through the ROOF! Rates for what used to be "Global Priority" went from $4.25 USD, up to $9.00 USD...and rates for what used to be "Global Express" went from $16.00 USD, up to $22.00 USD. :cool:
 
I was under the impression there was still a cheaper option for surface? I am gonna check that link.

Looks like I was getting a deal then,...
 
Uh, yeah, for a single card in a regular bubble mailer at a REGULAR postage method, it's much cheaper. Like, under $2. Certainly priority or express would be more expensive, but most cards don't necessarily need that kind of service.
 
I still send singles in a bubble mailer to Canada (regular airmail) for like 86 cents ... what was more shocking to me was the fact that to send the exact same thing inside the US is now $1.13 ... not sure how they managed that one, but I'm sure we'll see the correction to the International rates soon.
 
Thats what I meant,...thought I saw somewhere it was cheaper for US -> Canada than US -> US. So $7.95US is a bit ludacris! :eek:

Hey guys,
Please pardon my ignorance, but what kind of insurance and/or tracking are you guys getting when sending cards via First-Class International? I've only been trading online for about a year, but I've always (until the recent overhaul) used at least Global Priority when sending to Canada, as the Postmaster at my PO has always told me that there is no tracking, and very limited, if any, insurance offered on a letter.

I believe, as it is now, a $9 "Priority Mail" package (which is what I use now) is trackable, and automatically insured for $100 USD. If I can get the same benefit for just over $1 USD, PLMK, as that would obviously save me a small fortune on international shipping!! :eek:...and I'll have to have a word with Mr Postmaster!! :mad: Thanks.
 
Dave is correct on this, about 86 cents for 1oz bubble to Canada.

on the flip side Dave, check how they are coding your us mail, last
I walked in they wanted to charge me that 1.13 for the US version, but
they were punching the wrong keys, I think they were using the
large env 3/4 in thickness price, have them put in the first class
letter with a surcharge for the bubble and it came out to 58 cents.

Joshua,I think what the guys are saying is if you simply drop a card in the mailbox in a padded envolope that it will cost you a buck or so.But once you ask for trackable and than add insurance I do not think they are getting that for a buck.It is no different here in Canada.I can mail a regular padded envolope with one or two cards in it for about $2.00.But once I want tracking than it is about $11.00.And contrary to the belief of most people here in Canada we cannot insure cards.They are considered a collectable which is non insurable.I know many people have insured and just as many have made claims.And I say good for those people,But Canada Post had no obligation to reinburse anything for cards.Matter of fact we cannot really send cards by Xpress post to the US if we were 100% honest with the post office.Xpress post is for documents only.Our mailing systems can be very eye-opening when one looks into it a bit.I can see it come the day when there will be no cross boarder trading.Many US sellers on eBay already will not ship to Canada.

Free trade my ***. Customs is the problem. The border should be invisible, but it isn't. Immigration issues and protectionist economic policies on both sides fork over the honest folk.:mad: :mad: :mad:

What it's going to come down to, at least on how i'll conduct
ebay business, is, if you pay by money order, postage will be
$2, if you pay by paypal, postage will be $9 or more with
full declaration of value, registered and insured. Every time
I send something across the border that has value any more,
I sit for 2 weeks with my fingers crossed, and that type of
stress is getting real old.
 
CJ - thats my point. We are Canadians and Americans, but have to treat each other like we're from warring 3rd world countries.
