An Undecided Collector. Need some HI Help

HI Guys,
i've been on HI and some other sportscard sites for about a year and a half. I've collected i guess you could say several players over that time. None have stuck with me. I've really always wanted to collect one or two players max and focus on them, but i always find a way to talk myself out of it. I guess it's because i'd have a really hard time parting with some of my ovechkin and crosby high end stuff mainly. Here is what i was thinking, and everyones opinion is welcome just lets try and stay clean.

1) I was thinking about collecting steven stamkos and jonas gustavsson. Stamkos because he is a Markham boy like me and he went to the same highschool i did and walked the halls with me for a half-semester. Gustavsson beacuse he's the first decent rookie(so-far) that the leafs have had in a while.

2) Collect a Set. This one really avoids me each time. I look at the checklist and i say to myself why would i want to pick up autos or gu or raycroft,yashin, players who weren't very good. I just get discouraged easily.

3) Just continue to do what i do and pick up bait and maybe focus a little on some ovechkins and crosby that i can get my hands on.

Just hoping some of you guys can put some input into it for me.

U have already talked yourself out of a set Ovy and Sid are highly collected.. So try Stammer and Gustavsson.. U already have some sweet Ovy and Sid cards I believe and the other 2 u have a connection with.. My 2 cents

Collect who you like and what you can afford.

A small note, collect Stammer and Gusty. However, you don't need to part with your Ovi's and Sid's. I'm the same way, I have a lot of PC's but if I like a card I acquire but its not one of the guys I collect, I still keep it. It goes into my "nice card" PC.

You could be like me and collect a couple of sets as well as a couple of players. I currently collect SPGU Rookie Exclusives Autos, SPX FF Auto/Game Used and Ultimate Debut Threads as well as Corey Perry and I just started a Phil Kessel PC. It's all about collecting who you want and enjoying what you collect.

As far as Gustavsson is concerned he might not even be a Leaf after this season so you need to take that into consideration. I don't think he'll create too much of a high end hobby interest so you shouldn't have to part with much or any of your ovy or sid collection to get some nice cards of his. Stamkos on the other hand continues to improve and light up the league, so you might have to with him.

I've collected the multi colored 05/06 SPX Rookie cards and attempted the 07/08 Ultimate rookie set. The thing I've found is that you get bored once you get the majority of the set.

I have also collected rookie year cards for four different players. My preference would be the player collection. I find it really challenging. I'm still looking for 2-3 cards from each player but hope someday to find them.

The next player I pick will be the player I collect from now on though. Then everyone knows who you collect.

just collect what you want to collect, even if it doesn't seem to have any patterns.. so i vote #3.
