Anisimov, the sniper.....

i liked it....but i might be biased.....a little :). really don't know how we ended up shorthanded out of that though, Anisimov didn't touch anyone and got 4 minutes for roughing

Heres the long and the short of it.

It was a nice goal. Celebration for a nice goal is fine. If he had aimed his gun at the ceiling (like you guys are saying Selanne did, which by the way is completely different here), thats one thing. But he didnt. He aimed it directly at Garon (or possibly even Lecavalier who was right there. Thats 100% classless taunting.

Having said that, its his right to celebrate how he wants BUT he better know doing something like that is going to have repercussions.

The Lightning did exactly what they should have and good on VL4 to go right after him. Thats what a captain should do in that situation and I couldnt be happier to see players who normally dont scrap, get in there and start a scrum because of the celebration that was completely uncalled for.

Anisimov did what he did, the Lightning retaliated appropriately and thats the end of that situation.

The only thing in question is how Downie got there. Heres how I saw it. Downie is about to come on for the injured Connolly. He gets halfway over the bench and the Lightning are scored on. Connolly is for all intents and purposes off the ice as he was injured so took him a bit longer to get into the door that when he heard the goal being scored he didnt try to rush to get off. Now Downie is sitting on the boards obviously not thinking theres a rush to get on the ice since the goal was scored when he sees what happens and immediately gets on the ice. IMO the change had already been made or at the worst was in progress when play was going on that led to the goal. Therefore technically it shouldnt be the auto 10 game. Having said all that, his name is Steve Downie so I fully expect there to be a suspension over it. I just dont think its justified in this situation. Downie got on the ice because he was supposed to already be there but stopped when the goal was score. He was the 5th guy at that point and needed to be on the ice. Thats why he went and I have no problem with it. I think he is going to be a victim of circumstance here unfortunately. Will be interesting to see how Shanny views this.

Glad to see Tampa not let the "football" celebrations happen to them again. A least they stood up for themselves unlike the stupid hot stick incident a few years back.

I love it when a player celebrates like that every once in a while. It gets everybody all fired up and makes for a great game. The only thing that would have made that funnier is if he flipped them the bird afterwards (not that I'm condoning that kind of gesture in an NHL game in front of children and whatnot). That really would have riled them up. But some of the greatest moments in recent history have involved celebration after the fact....think Fleury's goal in game 6 of the 91 playoffs vs Edmonton....Roy's wink at Sandstrom in the 93 playoffs.....

But then again, maybe that's just me...

Anisimov is not 'that type' of player. My bet is that it was some sort of joke he made with one of the Rags players, because he would not have willingly done a celebration like that. He is one of the most humble players out there. I dont mind the little 'acting' celebrations, its the minute long dances I cant stand (and one of many reasons why I dont watch football).....

As for Downie, he just never learns.... Cant wait for him to get the 'smack' laid down on him.

Looks like youll have to wait a little longer. Early indications from people in the know is that it was deemed a legal line change, and therefore not going to be the auto 10 game. Sounds like the most he might get the max fine of $2500 for coming straight into the altercation and being named Steve Downie.

He did nothing wrong. He was supposed to be on the ice already but when he was about to hop over the goal was score so he kinda just sat there figuring there was no rush. Then all hell broke loose and he realized he should be on the ice anyways so he went into it.

By the way since he will "never learn". Why dont you tell me what hes done since his preseason incident in the NHL when he was a rookie. Hes been perfectly fine since coming to TB, thats for sure. He does exactly what hes supposed to do.

First they whine about Omark's shoot out spin-o-rama and start to do same moves themselves. Then Ovies hot stick celebration and now this. Why are the Lightning so sensitive always. Do they have their periods or maybe a severe sunstroke?

haha were those really all against them?

Just read in an interview that Anisimov meant for it to be a 'snipe' of the top shelf, and was not meant to be aimed at the goalie. Woops....

Next time he should stick to the bow and arrow celebration, at least it is outdated enough that there is a chance the other team wouldnt catch on....

Lets get a few things staight.

First of all, they complained about Omark showboating in the shootout for no reason. A spin in the neutral zone on a shootout attempt has no bearing on scoring a goal whatsoever and therefore is pure showboating and classless. They were right in being annoyed by it because it was bush league, but Id say they probably should have just kept it to themselves. Even then, it was more saying it doesnt belong in the league rather than actually whining about it incessantly.

Secondly, the "same move"? Seriously? Do you not understand the difference between a spinorama that actually directly effects the goal as in the Stamkos PS goal and the spinorama the ballerina Omark did in the neutral which had nothing to do with the attempt other than to be cutesy. Not even close really.

And they actually didnt do or say anything about Ovies stupid stick celebration. Unfortunately. IMO they should have laid him out while he was playing with his stick. They should have reacted to Ovie like they did to Anisimov. The problem was we had all pansies on the ice or players who didnt care like Lukas freaking Kraicjek.

How they responded to Anisimov was exactly right and any other team would have done the same thing. And if they didnt, Im sure there would be a thread calling them pushovers and pansies with no pride or whatever anyways.

I do understand the difference but I don't see how some show element is bad for the sport.

I love every individual who tries to make this lovely sport more entertaining. Ofcourse I know where all this whining is coming from... The players who did those things were european. That's why noone whined about famous Tiger Williams or Theo Fleury celebrations. (Or any of the famous canadian player celebs)

Maybe it's time to shove those stupid ancient "codes" up their... and start to entertain people. You propably like the 1-3-1 system but I rather watch spin-o-rama's on the neutral zone. No matter who does them.

you're starting to sound a bit homerish. we get you like your team but blinders off when you're posting at least. there's nothing classless about showboating. anything to make the game more interesting serves a purpose.

whether Omark was pumping himself up (or the crowd), or distracting the goalie and possibly getting him to not focus for a quick second, it worked. you can't say a spinorama at center ice was meaningless just because it had no forseeable impact on the shot. Omark had a bit of rep of being creative in the shootout. if what he does helps him get into the opposing goalies head, it's a wise move.

next, there's a big difference between Ovy and Anisimov. Ovy wasn't directing his celebration and basically taunting the opposing team. laying him out when he's celebrating his goal would be bush league. leaving him to look like an idiot on his own was the right thing to do there. while both are over the top and stupid, had Anisimov basically aimed the "gun" up and not at the Tampa players, his whole celebration would be a non issue. (though there's no doubt what the Tampa players did is the right thing on that one).
