Prime I once ran into what was a real bad forged graph so I message the current high bidder. The next day I got a notification from ebay basically stating if I do it again I will be booted. My guess is atleast in the case I am talking about that shilling was going on and I happened to message the sellers other ebay name. At any rate my suggestion would be to be very careful in getting hold of high bidders. It really steams me to have gotten my reply back from ebay as we need to be looking out for each other specially in cases like this. Contacting the seller probably not going to do anything either I am sure they know it is a fake. My suggestion would be to contact ebay directly and send the link. I hate to see people get taking when they have no idea what they are about to buy...these kind of sellers need to be banned imo...jason

I guess if number 18 has never come up we'll never know...Unless I knew for sure I won't get invloved in someone business.

Barrie- how do you know that is a fake patch- I mean some of the patches from that set were awesome- the Yzerman with the Stanley Cup patch comes to mind- wouldn't there be obvious wear on that card if a switch was pulled?

Dave, because the Avalanche have NEVER had that type of pattern on their shoulder patches. If we can get someone in here more computer literate than me I am sure they can post a sample of the shoulder patch for reference.

The "hair" around the foot is too intrictae and the gold toes are off in shape and size.

Dave, you really have to trust me on this, I am an authority on Avalanche memorabilia. I have been collecting Avalanche gamers since day 1.

Ask Barry Meisel of MeiGray, I am the one who got him in contact with the Avalanche to put the team on board for his jersey program even before they did their deal with the NHL.

I can spot a fake piece of Avalanche memorabilia from a mile away.....

Barrie- I absolutely do trust you as to your knowledge of Avs memorabilia among other things- I was just curious is all. Trying to glean some knowledge of my own here.

Dave, this actually was an issue I brought up over a year ago with UD/Beckett. It was confirmed I had spotted a similar fake and the patch had been relayered according to UD as I was suspect at first UD had a fraudulant gamer in their possession.

Anyway, not gonna beat a dead horse but I am starting to wonder since this the second version of this card with the same type of fake shoulder swatch.............oh well, whatever, not my problem just a heads up for our members not to bid on this worthless piece of junk. ;)

I actually know the seller quite well, I will contact him as to where he obtained the card.

Would love to know Mike, thanks. And just to be sure I am totally clear I am in NO WAY accusing this seller of doing this relayer job.

I actually have bought from that seller quite a few times myself and know from personal experience they are legit and good to deal with.

But again, as Jason pointed at, it is not my place to get involved, just giving any of you super swatch/Avs/Sakic guys a heads up to steer clear of that one...........

I know, and yes the seller is quite reputable. He's a collector just like you and I, a very good guy. I know he is currently selling off most of his collection. I will see what I can find out.

Sakic PATCH

I know the seller very well.

The product was released on a Friday.....the first day of the weekend Expo.

He helped me at the Expo on the Friday....He brought this card, along with the contents of the other Ultimate boxes he had opened, to the show.......which I then displayed in my showcase.

He pulled it from a box bought at a MAJOR wholesaler here in Canada.

He has a solid reputation on Ebay, so let's put this to rest before any further damage is done.

Thanks,
Joe

I just got an email from the seller stating exacltly what Joey has stated. Here is the email.

"When this product first came out I purchased a full case from xxxxxx and opened it myself. I pulled this card along with a Heatley patch and a Thornton patch, as well as an autographed Zherdev patch out of 10. I gaurentee that the patch is legit. Thanks"

Now the patch has only been in his hands and I 100% know this guy would NEVER EVER alter anything in his collection, including this card. He is a great guy and a great collector who wouldn't need the extra few bucks that a premium swatch would garner on Ebay. (Trust me on that).

So the patch came directly via UD, authentic or not!

Not 100% sure if he was ever or is a member on these boards, but he has read this thread and added a blurb into his auction afterwards.

Mike, Joey that is AWESOME news because this now confirms what I originally thought and that Al Muir and everyone else on Beckett blew me apart for. UD DID indeed purchase and cut up a fraudulant Sakic gamer.

Those Son's of.............WOW......now it brings me to the other point I made a year and a half ago, and that is how much else of their stuff is NOT legit? Someone needs to take them to task.........

I am gonna knock on Al Muir's door one last time about this but figure he'll brush me off again. I think he hates it when I'm right!:p ;)

Joe, I appreciate the insight and clarity to this matter. Like I said, I have dealt with the seller before and NEVER and had a problem nor was I accusing him. I just wanted to know the chain of custody of that card just in case.

Now it would seem my suspicions of a few years ago have come to fruition.

Would love to hear AM or someone else try and explain this one............

Let me clarify, as I remember Barrie's initial post at Buckett:

He isn't accusing the SELLER of faking the patch. Barrie's contention is that the patch doesn't represent an Avs jersey, and the source of the forgery is UD itself.
