No, not Giroux. Darroll Powe was traded to the Minnesota Wild. I am not sure why. The guy should carry a fairly low cap hit, and he is a great 4th line player. Plays hard every minute, loves to hit (at which point it is imperative you scream "POW!"), and will pot you 8-12 a season. Also kills penalties fairly well. I know this is considered a minor move to most, but for a Philly team that was outmuscled by Boston, this is another gritty player, albeit small, gone for some reason I'm not sure of.
 
They're at the maximum number of contracts that can held by an organization - they have to be under by a couple if they're going to make any moves in free agency.
 
I understand. But I would have tried to move one of Leighton/Walker first. Sorry, the management is just urinating me off right now.
 
Wow, this one is really baffling (not that Carter and Richards weren't). There are a few players on that roser who I would consider dead weight, and Powe certainly isn't one of them. This hits me like the Brouwer trade, just doesn't make sense. I would love to have Brouwer back for his low cap hit, and I would love to have Powe on my team. The guy is a heart and sould player who gives everything he's got every shift, don't understand this at all. There has to be other guys they could have let walk away instead.
 
Sure there are more players that you would want rid of, problem is finding someone to take them. The Flyers needed to shed some players and not many are shedable.
 
I think this was his worst move so far. This makes no sense at all. With Richie gone, he should be getting even more penalty kill time. Who's gonna take that time plus Powe's now. And for a 3rd round pick in 2013? What was the point? This was one of the few small contracts that you love to have to balance out your superstars and we gave it away.
 
according to Bill Meltzer...Powe was asking for too much money. I also loved the grittiness he brought and I know his PK will be missed but not sure if he shouldve demanded too much money considering he is a 4th line guy at best. Not sure what the numbers were but if he was asking for more than 850K/yr then I say its all good.

Why in the world would you want to get rid of Briere? He has been our best playoff performer since he got here. The dude is a beast when it matters. Career high in goals last year in the regular season and besides JVR, he was the only other one that showed up in the postseason.
 
Agreed. There has been nothing wrong with Briere aside from his contract which has plagued Philly. It is finely coming to a point where it is not ridiculous and the fact that he has performed well makes that easier to swallow. It could have been worse and been a situation like Gomez or Drury where not only is the cap hit extreme but there is no performance to even ease the pain.

Sad to see Powe go though. He won't be easily replaced to the same level of contribution for that money.
