I'm having lots of fun collecting these cards - Hockey card curiosities as I like to call them.

Defensive end Jeff Lageman spent 10 seasons in the NFL. He played for the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars. The football player is pictured here in hockey gear and wearing New York Islanders hockey pants. As noted in the card, he started playing hockey to help heal an injury.

Denis Leary is a well documented hockey fan. He plays so often that he has a state of the art backyard rink at his home. He's acted in a number of major productions including Rescue Me and the Amazing Spider Man.

This Richard Dean Anderson (AKA MacGyver) card sums up his hockey career. Breaking both arms at 16 ended his dream but he remains a big fan of the game. He even has an Eliteprospects.com hockey profile page.

This is an interesting Derek Jeter card that notes his hockey related middle name that doesn't actually have a real tie to hockey.

I picked up this Stompin' Tom Connors card because it mentions his famous hockey song. I'd love to pickup the autographed version down the road but it goes for big money now. This card is extra cool for me because Stompin' Tom spent a portion of his childhood on Prince Edward Island not far from where I grew up.

NHL broadcaster Steve Levy. The last year Panini released these "Fans of the Game" cards they didn't include a base companion to the autograph set so these are a little harder to come by than in previous years.

Here's a fun fact: Charlie Brown and Snoopy creator Charles Schulz was much more than just a casual hockey fan, he was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame as a "Builder and No. 1 Fan." He was a huge hockey fan, playing often and building rinks in his community.

mmmm, you might be wondering how on earth this card could have a connection to hockey...

Well if you turn it over,

An interesting addition to my "Slapshot" binder of card with ties to the movie. Can't wait to add a new Leaf Ultimate Emilio Estevez to that binder soon.

Would love to know who this player is if anyone can help. Its certainly an interesting card with this minor league baseball team honouring the great 1980 US hockey team.

Jeff Francis card with a reference to Boom Boom Geoffrion.

Ben Rowen has pitched in the Majors for the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers. He played four years as a defenseman for the Los Angeles Junior Kings ice hockey club team.

Ben Sheets, AHL team owner.

John Burkett - big Pittsburgh Penguins fan.

This card notes that hockey is a hobby of Chris Bosio

Derek Aucoin pitched in the MLB with the 1996 Montreal Expos. The Quebec native grew up such a hockey fan that as noted in the card, he picked his baseball jersey because of Mario Lemieux.

Comments welcomed. If anyone enjoys these I'll keep sharing.

My favorite is the Richard Dean Anderson card. I know about his love for hockey. A lot of interesting stuff once again. Thanks for showing!

Very cool collection. But seriously, how do you even learn these cards exist?!? Check COMC card by card, and flipping the image to see the back?? Regardless, very impressive research. Thanks for sharing!

I've always kept an eye out for interesting hockey connections and I noted those down over the years. Now just finding cards that correspond to those stories. I also stumble on some by accident. COMC and the ability to see the back of the cards has helped me find some I otherwise would not.
