Hey there,

well, a guy offered me $1100US for my triple patch of gretz/sid/lemieux.... after i told him that i was looking for a bit more, he asked if i was interested in trading instead... he said he had:

"1999 Wayne Gretzky Living Legends 1/1 valued @ about $4500"

Anyone know what this card is?? Is it an auto? an insert?? Any info would be helpful, as i want even collecting back in '99, so got no idea what the card is... and i doubt it is valued at $4500 like he says... and input on price would also be helpful

thanks,

Dave

Not sure where he got the value of a 1/1, unless he paid that for it, we all know you can't put a price on a card like that. I do think the $1100 offer is pretty **** good though...my opinion anyway.

I think those living legends were regular cards, no auto no jersey...just a card! Maybe 1998-1999 UD "year of the great one"?, not sure though.

First ask him where in the heck he got that established value...hmmm methinks that the trusty "Bucket" doesn`t typically price anything #`ed under 25.

Secondly wasn`t there a set of cards that came out in 98/99 that consisted of like "everything Gretzky"? I can not think of what that set was called, but I am pretty sure that there were 1 of 1's in there....very hard to find as it was a pretty highly produced set. However in saying this I would guarantee you that it is just a simple insert card or parallel...no gu, no auto....what you have in hand is by far much more appealing....besides you just got your hands on that thing and gave up a lot to get it. I`d cry for you if you gave up that card you have for a 1/1 insert or parallel...even if it is of Gretzky.

A) That price is insulting.

B) Get a scan before doing anything. I've seen more counterfeit 1/1s from that set than real ones.

- Trevor is right about the set and there are 99 - 1/1s in that set

- he's insane if he thinks his card is worth $4500

- you're insane if you don't take the $1100 :p

$4500???

Me and my brother got a Gretzky Platinum 1/1 from the 1/box pack of Gretzky Exclusives set back in 2000. Traded it away for $1900 worth of cards, and we were really happy with that. Giving value of $4500 for a 1/1 from a set which had 99 different Gretzky 1/1's is insane, just insane.

He's completely full of it. Those 1/1 Gretzkys go anywhere from $400-600 at auction when they show up. Not to mention that there are SCADS of aftermarket 1/1s made from that set. Walk away.

If you wanna take the cash, that's a good price. I know Jeff/Gretzkycards still needs that card as well, so it's not like there are no other buyers either.

Because it's a 1/1 I guess the person believes he can value the card at anything he wants. He is sort of right, heck he can say its $45,000, as long as he doesn't try to sell it he can believe that :)

I am with Steve on this one, If your looking to move it get in touch with Jeff. Even if for some reason you 2 cant work something out it will give you a better idea about your offers you are receiving because no one knows the Gretzky market like him. If someone ever tries to feed me garbage about a card they are attempting to trade/sell to me they automatically get pushed to the back of the line by default. Which in this case I am talking about the guy who tried to trade you a $500-750 card for a card he offered $1100 cash on saying his card has a $4500 value. Silly goose.

wow... lotta responses... thanks a lot guys!!! So i see not to even consider the trade, but i have a couple mixed responses on the Cash offer... most people are saying its a good offer, and others that its insulting... not too sure, but when i listed it previosly i got an email offer of $1500, so thats the highest so far.... maybe i should tell him i want the $1100US cash + That $4500 1/1 of his ;)

oh.. and can anyone send me jeffs username so i can send him a pm?

thanks,

Dave

Don't mistake a random $1500 cash offer from some random person with someone who is a reliable buyer offering $1100. Just a heads up because I got screwed on a couple deals trying to get more money from someone I never dealt with 2 weeks later you realize the buyer had no intentions of buying meanwhile I passed on reliable offers.

Well said, seriously consider the $1100 offer if it was from a realiable ebayer, I have have lots of "email" offers on cards too in the past and got burned.

BANG ON FERRIS!!!

1) I recall approx a year ago at the Expo, on behalf of a customer of mine, I sold Jeff a card that I believe was similar to the 1/1 (from the same set?).....trust me, he paid NO WHERE NEAR $4,500:eek:

2) Dave-take the $1,100 US, and come spend it with me next time I see you in Woodstock :) ....seriously, TAKE THE $$$$$$$$

hahaha....thanks for all the advice guys.... well, im going to list the card again after i speak with jeff, this time it will be listed at a more reasonable price with a best offer, because i think i scared many people away with my $10K starting price last time, lol

Joey, sounds good, haha... my funds were drained last time from the ovy i had to buy to make the deal for the card in the first place... and once i pay my brother off, I should still have a bit of spending money for next time ;) ... although i dont often make trades to make money off them, i have to admit, this way a sweet trade for me, as im profiting about $400us from it :D
